Busy? He wasn't busy. Unless applying 'Udder Butter' to his recently kicked ass counts as "busy". This jerk only sees incoming data, no matter how damning, as an opportunity to brag. His supporters are amateur versions of the same

I get that he didn’t follow proper protocol. But also I don’t care because he’s a former president who had full access to docs like this for years and was not a threat as a spy or something, and because the double standard here is so obvious. If they had indicted Hillary and out her in prison for what she did I would say, “okay fair is fair.” But they didn’t because she is a “D” not an “R.” What Trump is alleged to have done is ticky-tack, deserving of a slap on the wrist at best. And that’s assuming he has no defense at all.

I also get that that ship has sailed and it’s not a defense for the courtroom. All I can say to that is that Democrats going scorched-earth is dragging the entire country into a dark place because Republicans will (at least they better) do the exact same thing to them going forward. “Release the hounds!” The base is getting angry. If Trump is convicted, and if he actually serves any time, the base will rightly demand blood.

Democrats are playing a very, very dangerous game here, that may yet ruin our country.

I disagree that Trump's excuse would not play well with a jury. It sounds honest and normie. And it makes sense that there would be a big job to go through every page to determine what needed to go back, and what was of a personal nature. The last thing Trump would want to do because of the hostile Democrat government witch hunt was to hand over personal documents they would turn around and use against him. The fact is that those documents were probably more secure in his compound than they would be with the leaking Democrats.

Meanwhile Biden has classified documents in his open garage for years. What was his excuse for not dealing with them?

No one forced him to do this and likely against any council but he does what he does. If he didn’t do shit like this he could have been a two termer. I’ve moved on.

Agreed, Mr. Trump convicted himself. Erick when you said Trump can't control his impulses is as plain as day in Bret Bear's interview.

And again, this is why Trump is not Presidential material anymore. He had his purpose and fulfilled it in his time as President exposing so much deep state involvement in our government. However, Trump is not the person to follow up with logic, a strategic plan to reduce the power of the deep state as he has too much personal baggage clinging to him. We need a young bright star with political savvy to navigate and lead the nation to be a shining light on a hill.

Can we please have a day without a post related to Trump? Once again the Orange Man has sucked all the air out of the room for the other qualified and competent candidates running for president. Surely there is something else we need to be hearing about! I am also sick of Hunter Biden although I guess that’s going to consume us for the next 24-48 hours.

Fair enough. Now tell me why I should vote for any established Republican instead of Trump? How are they any better? Because they say things that I love to hear, and then chronically fail to follow thru with even their most basic promises? Are Republican politicians going to suddenly lose their self interest and serve the interests of their constituents and the American People after having failed to do so (with few exceptions) over the last 60 years?

I'll take DeSantis, Haley, Scott, Ramaswamy without blinking an eye.

Ron DeSantis seems to be a DOER and not just a Talker. We've seen his accomplishments as he's followed through with policy changes in his State government. Just like Ronald Reagan proved himself as a good "governor" before becoming President, it looks like DeSantis can bring about actual change.

Never follow a leader blindly I made that mistake with GW Bush and I’m still wondering what was accomplished in Iraq Trump is his own worst enemy and brings this on himself then he blames everything and everybody when the wheels fall off we have better more conservative candidates to chose from that will serve the people better than what we have now and are electable

Expand full comment

We have "other conservative candidates to choose from that will serve the people better" ... ? Oh really? Who? Mitt Romney? Paul Ryan? GW Bush? Mitch McConnell? Kevin McCarthy or his personal lapdog, M.T. Green? Oh yeah. You keep on believing in the now failed, and soon to be defunct Republican Party.

There’s a reason you mentioned all of those candidates 😆😆 you can’t bring yourself to mention DeSantis, bc as a whole, Desantis has been a much more conservative AND effective governor, than trump ever was as a president.

You mentioned all republicans who are not running for president 😂🤣

No, I am not trying to be deceptive. I am very seriously considering DeSantis; I did mention that in some earlier comments. My shtick, as it is, is that the Republican Party and its politicians have almost completely failed Republican voters for half a century. They have told us what we want to hear so that we will elect them to office, then they have served only themselves while the country continues to move further and further left year after year. Yes, I used as examples some of the worst of the worst, like GW Bush. But I genuinely believe that the only ones who are not "in on the game" are those that aren't "in on the game" yet. And I absolutely believe that anyone who blindly listens to and believes the promises of Republican politicians and gets excited about what the Republicans can and will do based on those promises is a damn fool. They can only lie to us for so long before we turn our backs on them. And enough of us have now figured it out that the Republican Party is at best struggling, and at worst, failing. And I believe that Trump is the demon that the Republican political class summoned by 50 years of deceiving their voters with vacuous promises. They have reaped what they sowed, and now their Trumpinstein Monster is destroying the Party. And yes, I fundamentally disagree with Erick to the extent that he blindly trusts and supports the Republican Party. I wish that he would move to the point that the other great talk show hosts eventually embraced during their careers - the ability to see the Republican Party for what it is, and the willingness to criticize it. Erick simply will not do that.

That’s not what I said those guys you mentioned are not conservatives at all to what the country needs now Ron DeSantis is a conservative his record shows it Tim Scott is also a conservative Larry Elder shall I go on Look I voted for Trump. Twice because there was no alternative the same Mitt and McCain now it’s time to move on Trump was good for the country but I for one do not want to go down to defeat again because our candidate is packing so much baggage that he can’t win

The argument from the Pro-Trump right makes is that any GOP candidate would have ended up in this situation because the Deep State is out to get Republicans they see as a threat and that Trump is the best person to weather the storm and change the system. As with all pro-Trump arguments the man himself will make you look like a fool because he has no impulse control or discipline. His excuse for not complying with a subpoena because he was too busy and he needed time to sort out his personal papers from the Iranian war plans and other classified material is such a perfect distillation of his self-sabotaging megalomania. Instead of fighting back the Left's totalitarianism now the Right can waste it's time on a bunch more Trump-centered news cycles created by the man's incompetence but also the liberal news media's desire to push him as the GOP candidate because they see him as the most beatable. In effect, by continuing to support Trump, the Maga are exposing themselves as the real Rino's who help the Democrats and would gladly follow their Dear Leader off a cliff if he told them to.

I truly hope ALLLLLL the Always Trumpers watched that interview and could see how flawed he is as a candidate for 2024. His narcissistic, infantile behavior is embarrassing and will crush him if he is the GOP candidate. He is his own worst enemy.... I loved what he did as President and voted for him again...but he needs to go away.

I prefer to call them "Fifth Avenue Trumpers."

Why would he have personal stuff mixed in with classified documents? He can’t go away fast enough for me. We need to find real leadership and his antics are costing valuable time to do so.

Back in my Lancaster County,PA days there was an old saying that sounds apropos here. " Be sure your sin will find you out". Nothing is hidden that won't be revealed. I predict that this trial will be be hijacked by delay after delay because that is his only hope of avoiding time in Danbury.

Both Donald Trump and Joe Biden are screaming incompetence through diarrhea of the mouth. Are we listening?

Donald Trump's ego is such that he thinks that no matter what he does or says he will still have his following and win the nomination. Yes, Clinton and Biden did the same thing and nothing is done about it, but we need this country back and we need it back now. Please, let's put Trump behind us.

No, Clinton and Biden did not do the same thing, which was to refuse to comply with national security requirements AFTER repeatedly being asked to do so.

What lawyer do you think would tell him, “This is a GREAT idea!”? I was a parole officer for 22 years. One thing I learned is that criminals always think, “I can talk my way out of this.” It seldom works out well for them. Why do so few defendants take the witness stand in court? Because their attorneys almost always advise against doing that.

Expand full comment

I’ve served on the jury on two murder trials. The first one, the defendant did not take the stand. We still found him guilty, however. The 2nd one, the defendant took the stand against his court appointed attorney’s advice. He was a young kid whom they had offered a reduced sentence and would have been out of prison by the time he was 50 if he pled guilty. But, he thought he was smart enough to fool everyone and ended up being caught in a couple of lies almost immediately and is now in prison for life without parole.
