The issue I see with trying to retroactively reverse and of Biden's EOs is that you would have to prove that he either wasn't present when it was autosigned, or that he didn't previously approve the use of the autopen. They could easily say that his hands couldn't hold a pen, and point to all those videos of his hands seemingly frozen.
Something else just occurred to me. Remember when Mike Johnson said that Biden allegedly argued with him about a bill that he signed but said he didn't sign it. I think most people attributed that to Biden's memory loss, but now I have to wonder if he really didn't know that one of his staff had it signed without Biden's knowledge.
The SALT Cap is not just for Richie Richie’s in blue coastal states.
Over the years I have owned homes in Omaha Nebraska, Corpus Christi Texas, and Atlanta Georgia. You would think that Atlanta would be the most expensive city, but my Omaha property taxes were $15k, my Corpus property taxes are $14k, and my Atlanta property taxes are only about $800.
My homes have all been middle class and mid-priced for the community.
Cities and States do not apportion taxes the same way, or even fairly.
The current $10k SALT cap hits me hard. An increase to about $25k would suit me fine.
Joe was a mental squish when he was elected and anyone watching especially the the MSM could see that what I want to know is who was running the country and now about congress you can’t spend like a drunken sailor for ever sooner or later you have to sober up and pay off all the bad checks you wrote All the friends and loan sharks want there money back. This is not a Democrat or Republican problem it’s a congressional problem both sides created this long before Trump or Biden both sides have to solve it
Reposting from yesterday: If you haven't engaged with Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, I highly recommend it. In particular, they have a great tool for projecting the national debt where you can adjust different spending categories and tax rates to see the 10 year impact on the debt: https://www.crfb.org/debtfixer Using this, it became clear to me that BOTH spending cuts AND tax increases will be needed to narrow the deficit and ultimately reduce the debt. Neither one alone can do it because the pain would be too great. But our system (i.e. we the voters) punishes elected officials who cause pain and reward those who don't, so we are destined for a debt crisis that will result in far more pain for more people than if we had taken our medicine sooner. I just don't see any other outcome short of massive electoral reform where term limits are the centerpiece.
GOP/DEMS feels like they just open all "credit cards" offers in the name of the American people because that's who pays the bills. No responsibility or accountability!!! Sick of it!!
So much for the oath of office they take when sworn in on inauguration day. Defend the United States against all enemies foreign and "domestic". Harris should have said something. She was required to say something. She was required to question. Instead she sat there chomping at the big waiting her turn. Disgusting. Seems no one is questioning exactly who was running the country while all this was going on. I still want to know. Did Jill or Hunter use the auto pen? Why is no one looking into this? I get it. He's out of office; not coming back. But what difference does that make? He and/or his family and the then Vice President as well as others ought to be investigated and perhaps looking at being charged with acts of treason. And why is no one looking at these pardons as illegal? They just opened the door to any president in the future blindly pardoning anyone and everyone for anything that they did do or may do in the future. This is a bigger deal than just one coverup of the man's health condition. But I guess no one cares about that. I do. And I vote.
The Biden “presidency” (quotes intended) was without doubt the most opaque, corrupt administration to ever occupy the People’s House. Unfortunately, given the criminal excesses that go uninvestigated and unprosecuted all the time in DC, I doubt we will ever see any of the “puppeteers” behind this charade ever truly held accountable for their actions. 2,460 commutations in one day (17 Jan 25)? Does anyone actually believe old Joe made those decisions? Please….
Man this SALT deduction is a bunch of crap. Clearly nobody cares about anything. No entitlement reform. Nothing. Just tax cuts across the board and lots more spending. Awesome.
"The GOP plan is premised on a simple idea...if you can use this reconciliation bill to cut taxes and deregulate the economy, you will will spark enough economic growth to increase tax revenue in order to better manage interest payments on the national debt."
Should we officially change his nick name to "Magic Math Mike"? I know that Trump is the real culprit but common GOP.
Erick in the shutdown fight (at least when a dem is pres) you are all for shutting it down. Why not have the same spirit in this fight? Let the tax cuts expire if we can't propose something that puts our fiscal house in order. It's a simple idea if we can't pay for it we don't buy it. So either raise revenue, cut spending, or more likely do some of both. During the tariff argument MAGA keeps talking about how tariffs is short term pain for some long term gain (which btw is utter bullsh_t which you know) but in the case of balancing the budget it's actually true. So GOP grow a pair.
We have one head chef and 220 sous chefs arguing over what type of condiments to put on our sh_t sandwich and its frankly pathetic.
I have a simple proposal…not original, but simple…I propose we don’t have a revenue problem, (we’re taxed enough); we have an expenditure problem. Many decades of profligate spending by politicians of all stripes has resulted in a debt burden so pressing that interest payments on our national debt now comprise the single largest item of discretionary spending, even more than the defense budget. I propose we eliminate (not cut, but ELIMINATE) all spending on anything not specifically enumerated in our constitution. If our elected officials could find the collective backbone to achieve that, I dare say our fiscal house would be restored within a reasonable timeframe.
My solution which is also unoriginal and not brilliant is to to simply be forced to pay for what we spend vs. borrowing. The dynamic we have now is one where:
(1) Politicians spend money and current voters feel no consequences because the money is simply borrowed and its an obligation of future voters/tax payers.
and meanwhile
(2) Politicians that raise taxes are voted out of office
So of course we end up with tens of trillions in debt. We just need to end the disconnect of spending money with no consequences to voters so voters feel the deficit annually as what it is (a tax) then voters will immediately care about the spend side of the equation and politicians that spend money we don't have will be voted out and the problem will solve itself.
Concur. Indirectly related to this is politicians who, on an annual salary of what $200k can somehow manage to become millionaires over a course of a few terms? We need to enact term limits on ALL federal elected officials, and make it mandatory they place all their investments in blind trusts. I believe the founders of this country never intended for “public service” to become a lifetime employment endeavor. The entire system needs to be gutted and rebuilt.
I could see Washington, Adams, Jefferson and Madison slapping the 💩 out of many of our current office holders. We’ve become an embarrassment and are doomed for fiscal default. We’re the third generation inheritors who are going to run through all the money and more. Kids will need to sell everything to survive if things do not change, and they don’t seem to be….
It's May 21, and certainly early enough for the representatives who care about the Leviathan federal government we -- including Trump-following "oh, let's just fund it again this time" Republicans -- build upon, to teach Donald Trump what responsible fiscal policy is.
I fear the four Freedom Caucus members (there should be many more "true" conservatives with them) will cave in again before they guide Donald Trump to fiscal sanity over the business-as-usual of monstrous government waste.
Why can’t Congress pass simple bills? The no tax on SS, Tips, and overtime all have conditions or go into effect at a later date. Why not simply say “No taxes on tips, SS, and overtime”? They put time limits on bills and then sweat to reauthorize them. Play it straight up.
Good morning SP, you are absolutely correct; we’ve been borrowing to cover “revenue shortfalls” for quite sometime. I would ask that you please see my response to Mr Blair regarding the revenue-expenditure issue. I think we (the American public) have allowed our elected officials to dig us a deep financial hole. I think it’s time we stop the hemorrhaging and restore a bit of fiscal sanity. If not, I truly fear for my grandsons’ generation.
Attacking SALT, to show the hypocrisy of the left was the smarter play. They loudly proclaim they will attack, “the rich” but quietly give them tax breaks. But few understand how regressive this loophole his. Simplify the tax code. Eliminate SALT.
Here we are again, money talks bulls..t walks. The republicans are as feckless as the democrats are stupid. Can you hear me now Congress. I'm sick to death of you saying wait untill we have control.
Well you have control and you work for me, stop wasting my money and fix this. You are just like the media, you have no credibility.
I don’t understand why the Bidens felt the need to lie about their son health. Instead they should have been asking for prayers. Why did they cover it up?
When one has lived a lie most of their life it becomes normal. The Biden’s are truly a messed up family. The biggest shocker from Beau was Hunter immediately bedding his wife post his brother’s death.
The issue I see with trying to retroactively reverse and of Biden's EOs is that you would have to prove that he either wasn't present when it was autosigned, or that he didn't previously approve the use of the autopen.
