Darn I missed all of this. Aren't you supposed to be on vacation?

What I would like to know is how you get Vance off of the 2028 ticket? The RNC needs to wake up to Vance"s ideolgy.

This is straight out of Trump's playbook, and not a surprise. Vance sees himself as the heir-apparent and will use the exact same tactics Trump used to gain the Presidency. Bully, be-little, destroy anything that gets in the way of his ascendancy. What I don't believe he and others on the hard right are smart enough to understand is that the landscape for 2028 is different than when Trump ran in '24. So much of the vote was based on Biden and Harris' shear incompetence. The next election will be defined by two groups. The true independents who will not vote R again for some time because of Trump, and group of republicans like me who out of principle, will refuse to support anyone so closely aligned with Trump. If the dem's put up anyone reasonable (and that is a challenge for them) they will skate into the Presidency if Vance is the nominee. They are about to control the house, and possibly the Senate. If they gain all three branches of our government they will irreparably change our country, and this will be Trumps legacy. God help us all!!!

Vance is a shameless shape shifter. Getting rid of MAGA starts with getting rid of Vance.

Erick, first, Dreher had to know he was going to cause a furor when he went public with his remarks. A smart man doesn't give an interview in a vacuum. Second, you are on vacation!! We miss you, of course, but the purpose of a vacation is to disconnect. So disconnect! Unless there's a true national tragedy, please continue to enjoy your family. Goodness knows, these times fly by. I'll pray for your continued disconnection. 😉

I understand your thoughts about disconnecting while on vacation, but some folks are so dedicated to their ministry it’s hard to go cold turkey on disconnecting. I to wish that he would be able to disconnect, and relax with his family. Prayers are always appreciated throughout the Christian world. You certainly can’t go wrong with that.

However, it is what it is…

Yes, so true, we are lucky he's out there for us.

Amen on that!

De Santis Rubio sounds good to me and it doesn’t have to be in that order

Praise the Lord for unwavering, clear-thinking Rod Dreher. Vance needs a reality check kick in the pants... Tucker is a [rhyming word; forgive me, Lord] when it comes to Jews: May the Lord rebuke him, because when Christians "hate on" Jews, they're re-crucifying their Lord over and over again!!!

At this point in time, I agree, that Rubio is our best hope in 2028 for President of these, strained but still connected United States of America. 🇺🇸

Dreher is a very solid contributor to the public debate.

Vance should listen to him.

Vance looks more pathetic with each passing day.

So does Trump actually.

I have been a Rubio fan for some time now. I don't trust Vance and sure don't want to see a Tucker Carlson connection.

This is why I continue to read Erick's Substack. Though I'm a progressive Dem, Erick is right on the money in calling both sides out on intimidation. You would think it would be obvious, but it escapes these people that that's why so many Americans are fed up with politics and politicians.

We had hoped for an 8-year legacy with Vance as President, but it doesn't look like he's the right pick. I'm throwing my support behind Rubio.

Prediction: Vance is the nominee as long as Trump wants him to be. Another prediction: Trump essentially gets to choose the GOP nominee - cults generally don't die until the leader does so Trump still calls the shots in the GOP (even with a new nominee) More predictions: Trump won't take well to not having all of the spotlight / having to share the shine with the new nominee so expect some belittling behavior. Trump also cannot allow any daylight between himself and the nominee so - say for example Vance in a debate expressed openness to ending the tariffs, Trump would trash him on Truth and Fox News and he would then quickly have some issue some pathetic "clarification" that puts his position back wherever Trump's is at that moment. Fun Times

Since I don't live in that inline world, I know nothing about it. All I can say is that no one yet has "scared" me into not speaking my mind. Nor do I even understand it. I suggest everyone adopt that outlook.
