The Democrats need a villain.
They have tried Trump. They have tried the Supreme Court. They have tried Trump congressmen. They have tried January 6th.
They will move on to gun manufacturers and gun owners.
President Biden could have used his speech last night to really hone in on empathy and sympathy. The man who has lost children and wife. He spoke, at least, to the children who will be permanently scarred. But then he went into blame mode — not just the shooter, but the gun manufacturers, none of whom stormed a school and killed kids.
The Democrats need this issue, not a solution.
Joe Manchin (D-WV) said he will not support breaking the filibuster for gun control. Of course, he won’t. So the Democrats need to put together a package of ideas with bipartisan support.
If they do that, they’d get something done that does not involve a ban on long barrel guns that look spooky, the so-called assault rifle or assault weapons ban. They could find bipartisan support for armed guards at schools and beefed up security. They could find bipartisan support for more mental health funding.
In fact, no one wants to deal with mental health and when conservatives raise the issue, they get dismissed by the media and Democrats as trying to obfuscate on the issue of guns.
But there is a problem here.
The United States has a second amendment right to gun ownership. It is a more concrete, explicit right in the constitution than abortion ever will be. So we cannot do things like Australia, Canada, Britain, or many other places. We have to think differently.
Democrats, unfortunately, are unwilling to talk past their base’s gun control desires. They are not willing to work with the GOP to find bipartisan solutions. When the press takes up and talks about the issues, the press too wants the GOP to compromise a constitutional right, but rarely puts pressure on Democrats to find a solution that is actually passable in a congress that requires sixty votes to cut off debate in the Senate.
Compounding the problem, Democrats are headed toward disaster in November. They need a big bad. They need a villain. They have tried everything. So now, instead of trying to solve the problem of gun violence, they will use it to campaign on — letting the problem fester in order to mobilize their base.
A solution solves the problem but then requires the Democrats to go back to dealing with their fundamental problems. They can’t have that. So there’ll be no solution to gun violence this year.
The insane resistance from politicians, some school administrations, and some parents to making schools hard targets is maddening. And aside from that, the answer lies in returning to a focus on stable families with a mother and father and who raise their kids knowing Jesus.
"After Sandy Hook the NRA developed a FREE program to provide security experts for schools to assess security issues and give recommendations as to what they could improve. NOT ONE SINGLE SCHOOL TOOK THEM UP ON THAT OFFER IN SPITE OF IT COSTING THEM NOTHING. Let's keep ignoring school security and keep them easy targets.
Not about gun control or bans... guns have been around for decades, in racks in cars, in houses, unlocked and without the issues we see today. There is something wrong with our current culture, parenting, coping ability, mental fortitude... these are the things we need to address and change. God bless these families!"
