Only diehard Trump supporters want Trump to be the GOP nominee again.
Only diehard Biden supporters want Biden to be the Democrat nominee again.
Most Americans — including the vast array of normal people who try only to care about politics after Labor Day of a presidential year — would prefer a colonoscopy without anesthesia while also getting LASIK at the same time.
Whichever party tosses their geriatric first will probably win simply out of gratitude by most Americans, who are not political animals and want to be spared Biden v Trump 2024, the most unnecessary sequel since Caddyshack II.
Democrats, for all their rhetoric about Donald Trump being a threat to democracy, do not really mean it, or they’d ditch Joe Biden tomorrow. The only Democrat who could beat him in 2020 — that was literally Biden’s ad campaign — is one of the few who might not be able to beat him in 2024.
If the economy were as good as Democrats say, Biden would be running away with it. But he’s tied with Trump, according to good pollsters. He has the benefit of incumbency, which is an advantage. He probably does have a greater than fifty percent chance of beating Trump. But if Trump really is a threat to democracy, Democrats should be acting like it, and they aren’t except on MSNBC performances.
Democrats telling us what a danger Trump is to democracy are like Hollywood liberals telling us global warming is going to kill us as they leave their mansions in an SUV bound for their private jet.
Trump supporters are convinced only Trump can win, and if he loses, then it is stolen. They should dare to wonder if it really is worth investing that much time, energy, and money in a guaranteed one-termer who will need all the resources of the GOP to win, which could cost the GOP the Senate. Any other candidate might get as much as eight years and not need all the GOP money, which improves the odds of picking up the Senate.
Biden supporters are convinced only Biden can win, and if he loses, democracy is over. Those odds are odds about which one might consider rethinking the premise of having a nominee who can’t stay up past 7pm and is prone to wander off script and stage out into dementia land.
Instead, both parties intend to force the country through a round of political proctology, yelling at everyone who opts out of showing up that they’re the ones destroying the country, not the people nominating the angry old geezers nobody else wants. Don’t be surprised when a lot of people just decide not to vote next year. They’re willing to show up, but not for Biden v. Trump, and they’re telling you right now while you have a chance to change the nominees.
I understand the argument about the need for a two term candidate. It is not persuasive. You're assuming that there will be a republic when the next presidential election cycle rolls around . Voters need to elect a candidate who is .... Several have offered themselves... Haley, De Santis...Pick one!
Erick, the last time a I had choice like that I wrote in Jimmy Buffet. :)
