I enjoy Greek Mythology. I always make the decision what movie to watch. Having someone tell you not to go see a movie because it’s this that or the other and you don’t go, is sort of like basing your political opinions on THE VIEW

Well, the movie changes that, too, among many, many other things. What he saw w/Nyongo's version of Helen was Nolan's decision to add in an action by Minolaus against her which doesn't occur in any Greek myths (trying to be discreet).

I agree with you Erick that some of the dialogue was clunky, but I think the writing during the Sirens episode is some of the best stuff Nolan has done. I’ve copied it below, with a SPOILER ALERT:
“All the things you want it to be. Then, all the things you wish you’d never wish for. It was the delicious itch you go to scratch but find it’s under the skin, you can’t reach it. So the delicious itch becomes unbearable. Told you what you most want is what you most can’t have. And what you most can’t have is what you already had…and lost…. It was the song of all promises I failed to keep. And it told me I don’t really want to go home.“
I haven’t been in a theatre for years except to see Spinal Tap II. Not for those reasons I’ve just lost interest in most of it and several of the movies I have seen on TV were so twisted by Hollywood that they cause me to loose interest. I appreciate the review and the report. I remember Ellen Page before, like in Juno, so it’s hard to see her in stuff now. My wife looks at a lot of British TV. They cannot make much of anything without a couple lesbians, gays or whatever, but it’s not what the movie or program is about and easy to watch. I have a hard time watching British TV bc they mumble and I’m old and cannot read the closed captions fast enough. Thanks for the review and quit listening to those far Right nuts. It’s only a small number.
Why doesn"t Trump offer the country of Iran to one of the neighbors? I bet the guard might get a little nicer to the population if they needed infantrymen. And I bet one of or some consortium of several would not mind taking control of the money. And maybe, if Iran thinks Trump will not commit ground troops, they might think otherwise about the neighbors who they have been sending rockets at. For that matter, I wonder if Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah might even be interested in taking over Iran.
Thanks Erick, I think I'll dust off my DVD of Kelly's Hero's and have an afternoon of a good ole war tale with a sphagetti Western bent....and a face full of popcorn!
Most folks simply object to the implicit demand that they have a single, approved, & aligned viewpoint on the topic. You're supposed to validate their message & gush about their "strength & courage", all while excoriating those who give anything less than full-throated, slobbering support.
I love the story it seeing the movie. For entirely different reason. All of my children read it in middle school. I have three, I helped each of them with the tests assignments and projects. I am so sick of this story I just can’t, not again
Well, be assured, you wouldn't be seeing a version of the story. It's Nolans' movie. He uses it as window dressing, so it's not a faithful version of The Odyssey. He's changed it quite a bit. No... a lot. Odysseus is a very different person, for example. Another version of Oppenheimer in a way.
He turned Zeus' Law of hospitality - which permeates the story - into The Golden Rule. The suitors are not the same as in the story: instead of their being the next generation of young men, the children of men who fought/died, they're draft dodgers.
Page may not be Achilles, but Nolan gives her two roles of Achilles: as the greatest Greek warrior and as the ghost in the Hades scene. I don't think she was included for Oscar inclusion. I think he truly just wanted her in the movie since he likes to recast people he's worked with before. As a result, he pulled Sinon from The Aeneid for her - a character that helped deceive the Trojans into accepting the horse - but giving Page's character Achilles' famous description and his role in the Underworld.
FWIW I don’t believe there was an online conspiracy to try to sabotage the movie by right wingers. Hollywood does not need the online right to help it sabotage movies, it’s been pretty good at doing that on its own in recent years. There were legitimate concerns about Page’s presence in the movie that could have easily been dismissed by Nolan himself. Instead they let it fester by not confirming who he/she was playing in the movie which I think hurt the marketing and buzz of this movie. I am sure the movie has its flaws but I plan to see it. I am curious how faithful it is to the original source material.

My son said page was in it way more than he realized she would be and she ruined the parts she was in.
