Just a quick update. I’m headed on air right now and you can listen live at http://erickericksonshow.com.
It turns out the club Sheldon Whitehouse belongs to is not, in fact, an all white country club as a matter of policy. The truth matters, so we need to correct this.
But that now raises a wild question — why did Sheldon Whitehouse accept the premise of the question, i.e. his country club is whites only and why did Whitehouse call that a “long tradition” that he was fine with?
That’s weird in and of itself.
But, in fact, the club is not exclusively all white in that there is no formal policy. It could be that there are currently no non-white members, but it does not appear there is an official policy to exclude them. If there are none presently in the club, you can be sure there’ll soon be many as damage control goes into overdrive.
Still, though, why did Whitehouse accept the premise of the question as legit?
Golf course where I attended college (early 1980s) didn’t have a minority policy either, but new members had to be approved by current members. Minorities somehow never seemed to get approved. Convenient way to discriminate without a policy.
This is why I have so much respect for you, Erick. You didn't wait to make this correction for a day or two, then limit it to a few words at the end of a different lengthy post that was a hyperlink to this correction in hopes that people wouldn't see it (like so many major publications do).
You're a good man and, whether someone disagrees with any or all of your viewpoints or not, you're fair to both sides. That's why I've made a point to listen to your show when and where I can catch it.
Keep up the good, honorable, and honest work sir!
