Donald Trump was projected to become the 47th President of the United States in an overwhelming landslide that saw Republicans sweep the Senate and on the verge of holding the House.
How it happened: After North Carolina and Georiga went for Trump before midnight, all eyes turned to the blue wall of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan - three states Harris needed to sweep to keep her hopes alive. At 2:30 this morning, Fox News confirmed that Wisconsin was projected for Trump which was shortly followed by Pennsylvania.
Context: The overwhelming landslide election currently has Trump leading Harris by 5 million votes nationally and winning all seven swing states. This will be the first election since 2004 that Republicans won the popular vote.
What happened: Despite Tony Hinchcliffe’s controversial comments about Puerto Rico, a shocking 45% of Hispanic voters voted for Donald Trump with a majority of Hispanic men backing a Republican for the first time ever. In Georgia, CNN exit polling showed 25% of black men backed Trump along with a 20% swing against Democrats among independent voters.
New York: Voters in New York swung back to Republicans in the worst performance for Democrats since 1992. Kamala Harris’s 11% margin of victory is roughly half of the average Democratic margin over the past 40 years. The five boroughs of New York City shifted heavily in Donald Trump’s favor with Black and Hispanic men leading the way. Queens and The Bronx each posted 20+ point shifts toward Donald Trump compared to the 2020 election.
Florida: In addition to Trump’s decisive 13-point victory in Florida, Miami-Dade County went red for the first time in 36 years. According to CNN, Kamala Harris did not overperform Joe Biden by 3% or more in ANY county in the United States. Seriously, watch this:
The Blame Game
The Harris campaign has already begun pointing fingers internally this morning claiming that Tim Walz was a disastrous choice for VP.
Context: In addition to a horrible debate performance and repeated lies about his military record, the Harris-Walz ticket failed to pick up any of the Blue Wall states and underperformed the 2020 Biden-Harris ticket by five points in his home state of Minnesota.
Here’s what a Harris insider is telling Jacqui Heinrich from Fox News.
“People are wondering tonight what would have happened had Shapiro been on the ticket. And not only in terms of Pennsylvania. He's famously a moderate. So that would have signaled to the American people that she is not the San Francisco liberal that Trump said she was, but she went with someone actually to her left Minnesota....In the eyes of the American people, Walz was the governor who oversaw the protests.”
A chorus of Democrats are additionally blaming Joe Biden for refusing to get out of the race. Watch:
The larger issue among Democrats was succinctly expressed to The Wall Street Journal (paywall) this morning:
“This is a historic disaster of Biblical proportions. The Democratic Party, as it is, is dead. This is a historic realignment. There were Reagan Democrats. Now there are Trump Democrats,” said Chris Kofinis, a Democratic strategist and former chief of staff to centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.).
“The elites of this country alienated voters everywhere because they didn’t want to hear what working and middle class voters were screaming for four years—focus on us and our problems, not your agenda to destroy Trump,” Kofinis said.

Scott Jennings ABSOLUTELY nails it.... Too bad it will likely fall on deaf Democrat ears...
Still stunned by last night's results.
I remember in 1976 after Gerald Ford lost, his voice was shot. His son Steve said, "If you can't lose as gracefully as you planned to win, you shouldn't be in it in the first place." Kamala Harris is a sore loser.
With the Republicans taking the Senate, I guess the Dems are going to rediscover their love for the filibuster?
No Supreme Court packing.
No statehood for DC & PR.
Conservative Justices (Thomas & Alito are getting long in the tooth) as well as federal judges.
If the House stays Republican, no frivolous, fake impeachments every other week. First bill the House needs to pass is HR-2, which has sat on Schumer's desk since May, 2023.
Build the wall. Deport violent illegals first, then start working on the others.
Guess the Dems aren't going to rail against the Electoral Colege for another four years.
