Republicans, no matter the lying claims of the Democrats to the contrary, are a species perpetually governed by moral filters of sanctity and civility. Republicans generally want to compete aggressively, but in a FAIR fight. Their restraint in going dark connects to their faith in God and scripture. That urge is so strong that it creates tension within the GOP against political methods considered lacking sanctity and civility. It some respects it ties one hand behind the back of the GOP in playing the current political games. Republicans want to play cricket while the Democrats play Mad Max. The Democrats also use the high-minded morality of Republicans against them. While Democrats are the emotional animal that can be easily inflamed to be taken off their game, Republicans refuse to make that play while Democrats gleefully inject emotive stew into the Republican debate.
The bottom line is that politics is a mass media influence game that the Democrats have mastered and the controlling Republicans refuse to play. Not only do the controlling Republicans refuse to play, but they attack and destroy any within their ranks that go there. These old establishment Republicans still in power hold onto a some romantic vision where their goodness prevails... the people finally turn back toward the traditional values of real virtue and civility... and seek to re-embrace their self-awarded high-morality leadership.
I get that attraction, but I also see that we have complete evidence that is a path to continued political failure.
The Democrat spin machine does the photo altering of Biden and Trump... it gets blasted through their big data tools to the traditional and new medial though social networking. The voters ingest it though their likes and algorithm filtered content feeds... and their minds, lacking awareness that they are being manipulated, are polluted with this propaganda. That damage is done. Republicans would not do that. If they did, the Democrats would howl about it and there would be infighting within the Republican party against those that did it.
If the Republicans are so damn committed to playing political cricket, then they would need a platform of policy and legislative ideas to prevent the media from being a spin factory for the Democrats. Otherwise the Democrats are going to keep handing Republicans their hat in every election.
The thing that frosts me about high and mighty Republicans pulling one hand behind the Party back for fighting the fight, is the massive and clear evidence that the survival of the republic requires that Democrats do no stay in power. If you are in a war and you refuse to fight... how is that a winning strategy?

Only the mandate is gone and that has done little to curb costs or rectify the ability of people to get health care or even receive it with a good quality.
