First thing’s first: I’m back from vacation.
Tune in live to hear me today. And yes, it is really me doing this and not Philip, who decided he needed a vacation. So if I screw up the show notes, it’s Philip’s fault for taking a vacation.

Biden Wants Out of the White House
Bedeviled by crises of their own making and then some, Joe Biden is frustrated and wants to hit the road.
The plan is to put Biden on the road to highlight progress being made, even incrementally, in meeting the series of tests, with visits this week to California, where he will preside over a summit of Western Hemisphere allies, as well as New Mexico to push for his climate agenda. The administration will also set aside its reluctance to work with “a pariah” nation with hopes to spur oil production. And it plans to sharpen its attacks on Republicans, aiming to paint the GOP as out-of-touch with mainstream America on issues like gun safety and abortion, all while hoping the upcoming Jan. 6 congressional hearings will further color the party as too extremist and dangerous to return to power.
This comes after last week’s explosive NBC News story that Biden is causing anxiety for Democrats bracing for annihilation. That story was remarkable given the number of Democrats willing to talk about how bad it is getting and how frustrated the White House is.
Losing Manchin
Part of that frustration is the Biden Administration’s own incompetence. They cannot understand how they lost Joe Manchin. This WaPo story sets it up:
The statement drafted by White House aides two days later named Manchin as the focus of negotiations. White House aides sent a draft of the statement to Manchin’s office ahead of its release. Manchin’s chief of staff responded by asking the White House legislative director either to remove the senator’s name, or to add Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.).
The White House issued the statement anyway. The president had personally signed off on it. But Manchin exploded, texting a senior Biden aide that the decision was “unconscionable and extremely dangerous” at a time when liberal activists were targeting Manchin’s family with protests.
Continuing:
But the breakdown last year remains baffling to many close to both Manchin and senior White House officials. Biden aides are still in disbelief that Manchin abandoned months of painstaking negotiations, seemingly in an instant, over what they regarded as an innocent statement that they did not believe would offend the senator.
Maybe don’t use a Senator’s name when he asks you because your base is already threatening his family. Trivial things sometimes matter and that really mattered to Manchin. The White House cluelessness is telling.

Encouraging News Out of CNN
First, they dropped the “breaking news” alert for everything. Now, they’re willing to put back on actual conservatives. This is really encouraging news out of CNN and we should be optimistic they get back to real news without the Trump obsession and the editorializing for the left.
CNN’s ubiquitous “Breaking News” banner is gone, now reserved for instances of truly urgent events. Snarky on-screen captions — “Angry Trump Turns Briefing Into Propaganda Session,” for instance — are discouraged. Political shows are trying to book more conservative voices, and producers have been urged to ignore Twitter backlash from the far right and the far left.
I’m a big fan of the network and am rooting for its success. Every other network, including Fox, needs competition from a network that focuses on hard news. In the past, no one did hard news better than CNN. They’re still the only network outside the BBC with the resources to cover global events. All of us should root for their success — competition is a good thing, particularly when the competition is on the news and not just against MSNBC. Source.
The Rest of the News
The ABC News poll has more bad news for the Democrats. 83% of Americans say the economy is their big issue and will dictate who they vote for.
Gas goes past $7.00 for many Americans.
Democrats fume at the GOP highlighting high gas prices.
Inflation has twice the impact on retirees, who also are most likely to vote.

Market Snapshot
I'm very disappointed you seem to be turning into Kevin McCarthy on the January 6th hearings. I believed in the collection of issues and policies now called "Trumpism" long before Trump did, but we should not flinch from the truth that the man is a delusional narcissist, a sociopath and a person that considers the democratic system and small r republican values and ideals as something for chumps and losers. Please, please don't put your desire to placate your audience above what you know in your heart to be true.
Joe Biden was barely 18 months old when the "Boys of Pointe du Hoc" stormed the cliffs.
That loud rumbling sound you hear coming from Europe is coming from cemeteries where those who lost their lives in the liberation of Europe are spinning in their graves at what Biden and the Left are doing to the country they gave their lives to defend.
