Democrats Hate Tommy Tuberville
Media pundits want you to know that for the first time in 150 years, the Marine Corps is operating without a Senate-confirmed commandant and it’s Tommy Tuberville’s fault.
What happened: Alabama Senator and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville has blocked certain military promotions with a procedural tactic for months over opposition to the Biden administration’s decision to fund abortion services out of the military budget. When Gen. Berger, the head of the Marines stepped down yesterday after reaching his four-year term limit, Tuberville blocked the Senate from attempting to vote on his replacement.
The fix: Tuberville and the Republicans say the fix is simple. If the Biden administration stops funding abortions out of the military budget, services return to normal.
Sub down: While the Biden administration is focused on social issues inside the military, Bloomberg (paywall) is reporting that 37% of US Navy attack submarines are out of commission. The shocking number of vessels under repair is roughly twice the number the Navy prefers and is happening at a time the production of Chinese attack subs is booming.
Why this matters: As geopolitical tensions rise with a deteriorating relationship with China, the Pentagon has previously claimed US submarine technology is a strategic advantage over the larger Chinese fleet. With a growing number of US subs offline, pressure is mounting on military commanders and White House officials to provide answers on a problem worsening year after year.
Exercise is For Nazis
MSNBC was roundly mocked for recirculating a story yesterday claiming that fitness and exercise are symbols of the far-right. The unbelievable story originally published in March of 2022 purports that physical fitness has always been a symbol of right-wing extremism and claimed that even Hitler was “fixated on boxing and jujitsu.” Here’s the best quote:
The intersection of extremism and fitness leans into a shared obsession with the male body, training, masculinity, testosterone, strength and competition.
Aside from all of the known benefits of regular exercise, The New York Post covered a new study that directly links exercise as an effective remedy for battling chronic depression. The lead researcher in the study said, “The higher the physical activity dose, the greater the mental health benefits for depression.”
Maybe this is why the left is so depressed.
Sotomayor’s Book Wealth
Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has amassed $3.7 million from book sales that have in part come at the behest of staff members pressuring colleges and universities to make large purchases.
Details: The Associated Press is reporting that when Sotomayor spoke at multiple colleges or universities, her staff pressured the schools to purchase large quantities of her book. The result was multiple schools purchased hundreds and sometimes thousands of copies. Here’s the quote that matters:
In her case, the documents reveal repeated examples of taxpayer-funded court staff performing tasks for the justice’s book ventures, which workers in other branches of government are barred from doing.

I wonder if any of those schools will have business in front of the Court.
CNN's article on Tommy Tuberville was ridiculously long just repeating itself over and over again with pasted quotes interspersed.
