I suppose slightly off topic, but what is it that you yearn to return to in the republican party? I keep seeing some, including Eric, longing to go back to what is somehow called a sane republican party, and I can't help but wonder if that is the kind of republican like Lansford of Oklahoma who was given the task of negotiating with Schumer for an immigration, the results being that democrats get every single thing they want and there is nothing at all for citizens who are conservative. And that is the way it always is and has been. When democrats are in charge, republicans say they can't move the conservative agenda forward, but if we will just give them power next time they will do all these conservative value items. Then, if we are stupid enough to do it, they make excuses again, "compromise" every conservative ideal away, and wonder why we despise them. If that is what people want to call sane, I will have none of it.

Samuel was asked by the Lord, how long are you going to grieve Saul? The Lord no longer wanted Saul and Samuel was afraid Saul would kill him when he found out. The Lord made a way to go to Bethlehem and thus David was picked over all of his brothers to be king, Saul was never the right pick anyway. David has his chance to kill Saul while he was taking a poop, but he never did. Now, I don't know if God involves himself in these affairs here on Earth. I really haven't asked him lately. History does matter. Oh well I don't know where I was going with that but it seems there is some parallel with what is going on today. If nothing else it just serves to stir everyone up.

Funny you should mention Samuel. As lay reader this past Sunday, the reading was the story of Samuel first being called by the Lord, but thinking it was Eli at first.

Iran is ramping up the tensions to maximize the advantage of pushing the weak and incompetent Biden regime, ahead of an impending Trump win. They well understand what Trump would do, but have the advantage of a 3 year history of Biden responses. I would expect some sort of major escalation in coming months to inflict as much embarrassment as possible before Biden is gone. Loss of face is much more meaningful in their universe than ours, thus they consider a little embarrassment of a major adversary to be a huge victory.

With Trump we had peace and the beginning of cooperation in the Middle East. With Haley the darling of the war donors, we’ll have more war. Frankly, she’s dangerous and aligns more with the war class of Dems and Republicans. I think America is done with war, wasteful spending and a porous border.

I agree, but porous is a generous word! It’s wide open at this point.

Iowa isn't the end-all beat all. Many times, the 1st-place finisher in Iowa doesn't get the nomination.

That being said, what will happen if Trump is deemed ineligible to hold office again?

Expand full comment

As much as I don't want him again, what exactly would make him ineligible to hold office again?

They're trying to make a legal case for it... the "insurrection" and all that.... 14th Amendment stuff.

Expand full comment

Just another example of the Democrats using novel legal challenges that set a precedent that will not only bite them but continue the degradation of the country.

Impeachment was their only hope. It is up to the primary voters to send Trump packing.

Expand full comment

Yet not one person has been charged with insurrection…it’s an extremely high legal bar. It’s all interrupting an official proceeding which now has me wondering, isn’t that called the right to petition the government for grievances?

A reasonable person would think so. But people on the Left are not reasonable, they have an agenda and they don't care what they have to do to meet the end goals.

All GOP presidential candidates ahead of Biden in new poll, Haley holds largest lead

That last part should be the only thing that’s important to antibody who doesn’t like Biden.

The only goal right now is to beat the dems and Biden. Period. Doesn’t matter if that’s Trump Haley or Mickey Mouse at this point.

A salt shaker would be a desirable alternative to the veggie tale story we have there now.

And whoever has the best chance at that, needs to be the nominee. And that’s not Trump.

He’s the only candidate who is a guaranteed loss and the stupid Trump base doesn’t seem to understand that.

He only won by 51%.

Which means 49% didn’t like him. And wants someone else.

Going to be difficult if not impossible to beat Biden with only 50% of your own party supporting you.

That equates to about 45% of the country. Welcome to 4 more years of Biden. That’s what you will get with Trump as the nominee. It’s now clear why the dems indicted Trump. They wanted to fire up his base and make him the nominee.

Now they can cheat the vote and nobody will care.

Our only hope is to keep the house and take the senate.

Then at least we can gridlock the country. That’s better than a dem controlled government ready to screw us into nuclear war.

Trump is a heavy lift and it will cost the GOP Senate and House seats. So if Trump wins maybe he gets impeached against.

If Biden wins the landscape probably looks like it does now for two more years.

If the Democrats pull Biden after Trump is the official nominee then they will win, no amount of money of humping Trump will matter.

Trump is a lame duck on day 1 and the brand damage to the GOP will be massive. 2026 and 2028 are uncertain.

If Biden wins we get President Harris guaranteed at some point. Can the country survive?

I don’t think anybody has won Iowa by that much except for when they ran unopposed…

I will tell you as I have others, just as the attack by democrats on Trump has made the base dig in their heels, so has the insults from republicans on his supporters. Those who call the base supporters "stupid" among other things, are no smarter than they are because it hurts the chances of getting another candidate, not helps. I am DeSantis all the way, but I am smart enough to not insult people in such a way as to never get them to switch candidates.

I will vote for Trump if he is the nominee. That makes me a Trump voter. So I’m not calling those people stupid.

But to willingly vote in the nomination process knowing that he will lose is a dumb move.

He lost in 2018 2020 2022 and 23. How many more times need we do this.

And trump didn’t trounce anyone in this primary. He got 51% everyone else got 49%. It is as I said. In a two way race he loses but since the others are all meshed together it’s watering down the vote. No different than Pete pulling down Bidens numbers.

The dems were smart enough to consolidate behind Biden to beat back Barnikov (no not a mistype). Why can’t we consolidate behind either Desantis or Haley and beat him back.

But nope.

All anyone cares about is how centrists Haley can be and that she’s establishment. Who cares! She landslides Biden. So that to me is a goal.

Trump is a loser. Anyone who chooses him in the primary is unfortunately not the swiftest tool on the drawer.

Showing why I listen to you, you just said something that hadn’t occurred to me - Trump should pick Haley as VP much as Reagan picked GHW Bush. I would have to reconsider my vow not to vote for Trump a third time if he does pick Haley. I doubt he will.

Expand full comment

As I recall, GHWB was not Reagan's first choice as a running mate.... and at the 11th hour he finally asked Bush to join the ticket.

Expand full comment

If Trump picks Haley as his running mate and wins, the GOP will hold the White House for the next 12 years. It is such a good pick that, imo, guarantees a victory in 2024. I didn't want DJT as the nominee but I agree with Erick that he is going to be that nominee. Given we are most likely heading into a shooting war with one or more combatants (arguably we already are) I do NOT want the Democrats in control for that time of US history. Trump has my vote and God bless him.

I was going to go with Desantis in the primary, but I am solid Haley now.

As for the general, I am still undecided as to what I do if Trump is the candidate. I am 80% f him and the GOP.

Expand full comment

I too started out on DeSantis' team and moved to Halley. It was a combination of her showing at the Gathering and the first debate.

Respectfully, if you say "F-Trump" keep in mind we are likely in a shooting war with someone hot before the end of the year. Who do you want in charge of our military heading into a war with Iran, Russia, China, and possibly also the NorKs who are getting ready to declare South Korea a combatant by fiat in their constitution. Say what you want about the man's character but world leaders respected him, America, and our ability to swing the Big Stick again. I'll take some mean tweets, pissing off the pundits daily, and a mouth that's a loose canon any day to be able to manage our foreign business again.

Events change things.

Biden and his fellow traveler's world view is clearly exacerbateing the situation. Kamala will undoubtedly become President at some point in the next 4 years and she is, if not stupid, just abjectly incompetent. The destruction of the economy, Woke culture war, race war, and the ecoterriost, all supported by the Democrats just add to the misery.

So, yea, I can't say I won't vote for Trump in the general. I am still hoping I don't have to make that decision.

If Erick is right, and I think he is, Trump is the nominee. I'm holding out a sliver of hope but if someone not named Trump doesn't win New Hampshire and South Carolina then like it or not he's our guy I think.

Expand full comment

I don't know about that. 2028 would be wide open and Trump's brand damage to the GOP would put her under his cloud.

I think she sits it out and comes back in 4 years, same with Desantis. They will have nothing to do with him.

Expand full comment

I disagree obviously, but that's why they play the games, as they say. We'll see where this goes. I think it will all be academic after Florida. Maybe even as early as South Carolina. That might work in our favor. If it's a forgone conclusion that Trump is the guy early, that means he can spend more time getting his ducks in a row ahead of the general.
