Israel

The Israeli military has recovered the bodies of six hostages, including one Israeli-American, who were held for nearly 11 months and executed by Hamas in Rafah. The hostages ranged in age from 23 to 40 with Hersh Goldberg-Polin, the U.S. citizen, being the youngest.

The news elected swift condemnation against… Netanyahu. Britain’s new Labour government voted to withhold military weapons from Israel while Biden and Harris forcefully condemned Netanyahu’s handling of the hostage negotiations. The Wall Street Journal had the best line:

Hamas probably can’t believe its luck—or the lack of moral seriousness by its enemies. The terrorists murder six Israeli hostages, including one dual-citizen American, and Israel is suddenly under pressure to make concessions—to Hamas.

Volkswagen May Leave Germany

Volkswagen AG is considering factory closures in Germany for the first time in its 87-year history, parting with tradition and risking a feud with unions in a step that reflects the deep woes roiling Europe’s auto industry.

After years of ignoring overcapacity and slumping competitiveness, the German auto giant’s moves are likely to kick off a broader reckoning in the industry. The reasons are clear: Europe’s efforts to compete with Chinese rivals and Tesla Inc. in electric cars are faltering.

BREAKING: Former aide to New York governor charged with acting as an agent of the Chinese government

A former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul was charged with acting as an agent for the Chinese government, US Attorney Breon Peace announced Tuesday.

Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to Hochul, was charged with violating and conspiring to violate the Foreign Agents Registrations Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling and money laundering conspiracy, according to an unsealed copy of the indictment.

Her husband and co-defendant, Chris Hu, was also charged with money laundering conspiracy and conspiracy to commit bank fraud as well as misusing means of identification, prosecutors said.
