Ecuador
The prosecutor who was investigating a drug cartel’s on-air takeover of a television studio was shot to death last night in Ecuador as the country continues to devolve into chaos. President Daniel Noboa declared last week that Ecuador is in an “internal armed conflict” as police are attempting to crack down on more than 30 active gangs waging war across the country. Watch President Noboa’s interview on CNN.
Texas Snubs Biden
Texas is refusing to comply with a cease-and-desist letter from the Biden administration over actions by the state that have impeded U.S. Border Patrol agents from accessing part of the border with Mexico.
In a letter to the Department of Homeland Security, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton rejected the Biden administration’s request for the state to “cease and desist” its takeover of Shelby Park, an epicenter of southwest border illegal immigration in Eagle Pass.

Spotify Dominates Audio Streaming, but Where Are the Profits?
Spotify has a plum position in the audio-streaming business. It’s the leading platform, with some 600 million users. Its 30% market share is twice that of its next-largest competitor. Spotify is adding millions of new subscribers a month, and few of its users cancel.
Most companies can only dream of that kind of industry dominance. Yet not even the leading audio-streaming company has consistently made money off audio streaming.
While customers love the convenience of streaming, the question remains whether companies—in either audio or video—can translate that love to big profits. Spotify pays music labels nearly 70 cents of every dollar it earns from music streaming, its core business, similar to other services.
It has lost money in its $1 billion push into podcasting—a business that has turned out to be less lucrative than many first expected. An effort to stage concerts and sell tickets has struggled. And Spotify is two years late in rolling out high-fidelity lossless audio, a better-quality offering for audiophiles its major rivals have delivered.

Days before New Hampshire primary, most Republicans would be satisfied with Trump as 2024 nominee
Former President Donald Trump's convincing victory in Monday's Iowa caucuses shows his continued strength among Republicans, and a new ABC News/Ipsos poll finds once more that Trump is both viewed nationwide as the candidate whom Republicans and Republican-leaning independents would be most satisfied with as their 2024 nominee as well as the highest-rated contender across a range of other attributes.
Three out of four Republican-leaning adults say they would be very or somewhat satisfied with Trump as the GOP's presidential nominee, compared to 64% who say the same about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and 50% for former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Trump's two remaining rivals in the nominating race.

The GOP Is Already Clashing Over Trump’s VP Pick
The fiercest Republican campaign isn’t taking place between the presidential hopefuls in Iowa or New Hampshire this month, but rather in the backstage fight over who would be Donald Trump’s running mate. Or more to the point: who will not be Trump’s pick.
As Nikki Haley emerges as the former president’s most formidable opponent in the coming states, and toughens her rhetoric, her Trumpworld foes are intensifying their own efforts to block her from the consolation prize of the vice presidency.
Haley’s critics have even privately warned Trump that, were he to make Haley first in line to the presidency, he’d effectively be setting himself up for an intra-party coup, as GOP senators would use any legal or political pretext to remove him from office and elevate the more old guard-aligned Haley.

Re: Uvalde..... How nice that it took the DOJ this long to officially claim what we've all known almost immediately after the shooting happened.
Otherwise, I'd like to point out that one guy at the mall in Greenwood, Indiana did in 15 seconds what 376 cops in Uvalde couldn’t do in 77 minutes.
