Trump at MSG

Donald Trump held a sold-out rally at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden yesterday with a start-studded lineup ranging from Tucker Carlson to Elon Musk to Hulk Hogan.

The six-hour affair culminated with Republican operatives panicking about a kickoff performance by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe. The controversial comedian claimed that Latinos “love making babies. There’s no pulling out. They come inside, just like they do to our country.”

But Hinchcliffe’s most controversial comments came when he described Puerto Rico as a floating island of garbage. Watch:

Florida Senator Rick Scott claimed the joke was “not funny and… not true” with multiple Republican congressional members saying the same. The Trump campaign claimed the joke “does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.” Even CNN’s Scott Jennings said the decision to invite Hinchcliffe was a “really, really, really, really, really dumb idea and it distracts from what Trump's overall closing message has been.”

Israel Responds

The Israeli military targeted Iran’s air defense system in a multi-staged hourslong attack on Saturday morning.

Details: The Israelis primarily targeted three Russian-supplied aerial defense systems known as S-300 in three separate Iranian provinces. Notably, Israel did not strike Iran’s nuclear and oil facilities after significant public pressure from the United States.

Changes at The Washington Post?

Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos is giving his paper the ultimatum to hire more conservative writers for the Post’s famed opinion section in an attempt to woo conservative readers back to the paper.

Why this matters: The news comes as The Washington Post announced last week that it would end its 50-year tradition of endorsing presidential candidates as its editorial board had already drafted a formal endorsement of Kamala Harris.

Related: The news mirrors last week’s announcement that the Los Angeles Times would also be abstaining from its traditional presidential endorsement with a directive coming from biotech entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong. Mass outrage has enveloped both papers with multiple reporters and board members quitting.

Embarrassing

One of Kamala Harris’s first actions when she assumed the office of Vice President was to order a review of the adjectives used to describe female leaders. This is from The New York Times.

Paging through intelligence reports just weeks after she was sworn in as vice president, Kamala Harris was struck by the way two female foreign leaders were described. The reports used adjectives that, in her view, were rarely used to describe male leaders.

Ms. Harris, the first woman to hold her office, ordered up a review that scrutinized multiple years of briefing reports from various intelligence agencies, looking for possible gender bias.

The study found some questionable word choices but no widespread pattern, according to a senior intelligence official, one of five who requested anonymity to discuss the review.
