I didn't watch a minute of the partisan circus Thursday night, and I won't watch a minute of any subsequent "hearings". There are four questions I need to have answered now: 1) Who is Ray Epps, really? 2) Why was Ashli Babbett murdered? 3) Why can no one believe what John Solomon has so clearly showed, namely that President Trump offered 20,000 National Guard personnel as early as 4 days before the January 6th riot? 4) Given that President Trump made that offer, which was refused by Speaker Pelosi and D.C Mayor Bowser, isn't offering sufficient force to deter the sort of thing which happened on January 6th a strange way to run an "insurrection"?

Nothing has broken my spirit in the last year more than seeing people of intelligence and character, people like Molly Hemingway or Laura Ingraham or now Erick, throw in the towel of integrity in order to defend this worthless miscreant. Trump dumped acid at the base of the foundation pillars of our democracy, and all you guys can do is obsess on how persecuted conservatives are, how we should flinch from the bald facts and focus on wutaboutism.

The attitude of conservatives over the last year obfuscating and defending the indefensible has reminded me of nothing so much as the way Black Americans were whipped into a frensy of support for OJ Simpson; let's ignore the obvious facts that he cut off his wife's head, malfeasance of the LA police is the real issue here. I thought Black America had forfeit all the moral capital of the civil rights movement with that decision, but now I see it's a universal reaction of those that want to feel persecuted and wallow in their own pity party rather than accept objective facts.

Trump is a national disgrace, and the fact that quislings from Kevin McCarthy on down to Erick Erickson's audience won't denounce him is a far larger and serious disgrace. I still have some hope for Erick but my disappointment is growing with every column like this.

If I wanted to watch a slanted, selectively-edited propaganda film I would just watch a Michael Moore film.

Agreed Erick. Until we hear from Pelosi and Bowser why they didn’t act on Trump’s request for 20,000 National Guard on 1/6 to keep the peace, this is a Dem-concocted nothingburger. They should also release the thousands of hours of tape of the “insurrection” an stop saying 5 officers were killed or died that day. What a bunch of frauds.

"Show Trial"? I'm anxious to see how this unfolds but if it turns out to be a "show trial", it will primarily be Mitch McConnell's fault. He single-handedly shut down the effort for a Bi-partisan Commission. The House is first and foremost a partisan body, the Senate is supposed to be the adult in the room, alas.

And so, we have a partisan House Committee with a couple of token Republicans. That doesn't mean good work can't be done. I don't know what the format is going to be for this but I'm hoping, if there's going to be statements from the members that the clowns on this committee, e.g. Jamie Raskin and Adam Schiff will be circumspect. I'm not holding my breath.

I know most of the readers want to "move on" from January 6. But I'll steal a thought I read by another commenter on this substack, and this is a paraphrase, these are the same "people who can't seem to accept and move on from the 2020 election."

This committee should be given a good faith chance enlighten America about the events and more importantly, the motivations of January 6. It hopefully will also look into the efforts to manipulate and usurp the electoral college process subsequent to election day 2020.

Palooooosi can't put a bill before the house to protect the Judges, because they might go after her huuusband and he has the money she needs when she is kicked out of the house. Their house.

Don't forget about Maxine Watters' rant about "making a crowd... and let them know they're not welcome anywhere."

Amazing how the Legacy Media blames Sarah Palin for Gabby Giffords' shooting and Trump for Jan 6th, but they give Bernie a pass when one of his supporters tries to kill Republicans at a softball practice or this nutjob travels across state lines to murder someone.

And they continue to call January 6th a "deadly insurrection" - when the only fatality directly related to that date was one of the protestors, who was unarmed, but was shot by one of the Capitol Police or Secret Service.

I can describe our leadership very simply. Andy retired as Sheriff of Mayberry and Barney took over.

You know, I probably should care more than I do...but I don't. After watching riots with arsons described as "mostly peaceful protests"; after watching the debacle of the Kavanaugh hearings and inauguration, with "peaceful protesters" screaming and banging on the doors of the Supreme Court; after watching the demonstrations (including burning cars) at Trump's inauguration; after watching Antifa take over Portland; after seeing federal buildings, police stations, and officers themselves attacked with Molotov cocktails and all the other insane demonstrations, riots and protests that the Democrats officially condoned, even to the point of bailing out the rioters...it was inevitable that eventually, there was going to be a similar action from people on "the other side".

No, I didn't approve of it, I didn't agree with it, but my first reaction was "Well, what did you expect?" I mean, sooner or later, their tactics were going to be used against them, and their claims that this was "unprecedented" were annoying. No, it wasn't "unprecedented", it was a natural progression of events that anyone with the brains the Good Lord gave to a goat could have predicted was going to happen, sooner or later.

People are just TIRED of it all...tired of being expected to just shut up and take it, as our "leaders" in Washington demand. They aren't leaders, they are supposed to be our "representatives", and they represent no one but themselves. It's not a "threat to democracy" they care about, it's a threat to their own power and control over the people, the threat to "Democrats" is what they really care about.

MSNBC's position is totally understandable if you believe with all your might that the NYT and CNN are keepers of democracy. That of course also comes with the position they are in no way biased, and any individual that is not a "journalist" with a contrary opinion is a danger to democracy.

Thomas Jefferson wrote that a well-informed electorate is a prerequisite to democracy.

Democracy dies in the darkness is not the WaPo's slogan, it's their mission statement, and that of MSNBC, NYT, CNN.

The truth about tonight is outside of hardcore MSNBC and NY Times types no one cares, at all. I hear people complain about gas prices, inflation and out of control crime and mass shootings all day long. God willing, the lack of caring about what the Prog leaders want us to care about translates to this Nov and Nov ‘24.

"Americans think the press, President, and Congress only care about Americans who live in progressive urban enclaves, donate to Planned Parenthood, eat vegan, dress their kids in drag, and drive battery powered unicorns to their jobs in clean energy while wearing a mask"

Erick, my friend, you have a gift. Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us.

The fact that people like Pfeiffer believe diversity of belief is a threat to democracy is the actual threat to denocracy.

Why I listen to you...

I am in awe of your ability to be objective, intellectually honest, and you unapologetically pick a side.

Facts are not mean, if you don't like them look in a mirror.

I do not even understand why we should care about this committee because all they have done is make a movie of select bits that will paint a picture of what they wanted the event to be. If there is any truth in this sideshow, it will be purely accidental.
