Yes, Radio Man, I concur with several of your commenters.

Your rest is vitally important!

We need you “Bright eyed and bushy tailed,” as J.D. Holmes says. Your views on our world is the engine that drives these conversations, and brings calm to the storms that we endure. Thank you for what you do. 🫡🇺🇸

Don't waste too much time of the UN and International Law, neither are real! Only the progressives that hate America cite it. And, only loser countries believe it.

Thank you, Erick, for your tireless efforts. Please take care of yourself!

Good news from JPost:

"Italy weighs deploying missile defense system to Gulf amid Iran attacks

Italy's government is likely to provide military aid, including an air defense system, to Gulf nations that have requested help with equipment in the face of Iranian air strikes, two sources said on Wednesday.

The sources, who asked not to be named, said that while a final decision had not yet been made, Italy would probably send one of its SAMP/T batteries that can intercept ballistic missiles. They would not say which country would receive the system or which battery Rome was considering to redeploy."

The more we can get from countries less vulnerable than the Pacific ones, the better.

Get some sleep, Erick. We need you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at Noon.

Hard to believe the son could be even more radical than the father. One shudders to think of it.

Southern Planter's avatar

Hope you can get some rest, Erick. I often wonder how you manage to do as much as you do. As for the "war" in Iran, I think Trump's best political move will be to declare victory soon and leave the rest to the Iranian people. Probably will be a civil war, but we can continue to support the opposition with strategic strikes. If this war is still going on by the mid-terms, is still costing the USA billions, is still producing American deaths, and is still spiking gas prices, the Republicans will be toast.

Alan Ratliff's avatar

If memory serves, Niall Ferguson made this argument recently.

Between the Mossad, CIA, remnants of the Shah within Iran, et al, I certainly hope that we are setting up the stage for them to handle matters internally. And I trust the West, and perhaps even the Arab world, is willing to provide assistance.

The hope I hold lies in the fact that the people of Iran, Persians, are educated and advanced…far more so than the Iraqis and Afghanis on whom we foolishly tried to impose liberal democracy.

To wit, the dumber we get, the more we risk losing our own liberal democracy. And we (collectively) are getting dumber. Our political polarization is case in point.

dan's avatar

Alan, I fully agree with your about the Persian people, and, hopefully, that bodes well for Iran's future. I also wish to point out that, ironically, American MAGAs wear their lack of education as a badge of honor, dismissing the development of the mind as urban elitism.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

That is demonstrably false.

David Thomas's avatar

Dan's the one who made the sweeping claim. The burden of proof is on him.

Southern Planter's avatar

Based on my experience here in the sticks, I'd say Dan is dead on when it comes to MAGAs.

The statement that people who support the President are uneducated and are proud of it is ridiculous. Look just at some of the people who support the President--Ted Cruz (Harvard), Elon Musk (Space X, Tesla), Peter Thiel (PayPal founder, lawyer, hedge fund manager), J.D. Vance (Marine, Harvard), Jack Nicklaus (Greatest golfer ever, Ohio State), Tiger Woods (Stanford), Howard Lutnick (Cantor Fitzgerald, Haverford College)--and countless millions of Americans who support and voted for the President.

Is it really your contention that 1/2 of the country is uneducated? Is it really your contention that 1/2 of the country is proud of being ignorant? And do you really think that Kamala Harris is smart, and that her voters are superior in intellect? Really? Do you actually read what you write?

I know many, many people who support the President. They are smart, educated, prosperous, and patriotic. Your assertion that Trump supporters are uneducated is just as ignorant as the old slur that Southerner were uneducated. Neither is true.

I don't think there's any denying that one of the surest indicators of whether any given person is Republican or Democrat is whether one does or does not have a college degree. And then there's the frequency with which, if there is a scientific consensus on an issue (e.g., climate change, vaccinations), Trump voters will have rejected it

Neil McKenna's avatar

Citing one example, I'll never forget being stunned by Dan Proft, a Trump supporter and early morning radio host for Chicago's most conservative radio station, referring to certain people as being "overeducated."

Alan Ratliff's avatar

Yessir. That was half of my point. It annoys the feces out of me if I let it.

It is a feature (bug?) of modernity that places emphasis on the individual. Join that emphasis with the invention of the printing press (later, the Internet) and the subsequent proliferation of literacy and overtime everyone becomes an expert who wants to impose their unearned expertise on everyone else.

The far Left is just as guilty as the obstinate Right.

It is quickly becoming a personal slogan, maybe even a mantra, that literacy does not equal knowing how to read (ie, think).

I am still learning myself.

Alan Ratliff's avatar

I haven’t seen Andrew Sullivan mention international law yet, but he is certainly railing against the attack.

And I am not sure who, exactly, is using international law as their reason du jour to oppose Trump, since I don’t pay as much attention as most. (That isn’t an apology; my lack of attention is intentional).

To be clear, I am not a fan of Trump. That said, critics on either side consistently do not acknowledge the enormous weight of the responsibility he holds, though, and because of that, we should extend him a little grace…even though he has committed many impeachable offenses. Sullivan, et al, I’m sure, appear unwilling to acknowledge that weight.

Iran was/is a very bad actor in the international stage. So in some sense, this attack was good.

Let us hope the those making decisions at the strategic and operational levels are mildly competent.

Rachel's avatar

PM Starmer would be the one in opposition, at least of getting Britain involved in a more wholeheartedly offensive stance. He stated it yesterday.

Bryan S's avatar

When was the decision made regarding leaders? Last I heard yesterday Israel destroyed a building where the leaders were gathering to choose a new leader.

Rachel's avatar

From Algemeiner:

"US intelligence reporting indicates that senior IRGC commanders and surviving intelligence chiefs are convening in secured, subterranean facilities near Qom and in the highly guarded northern districts of Tehran. Their immediate objective is clear: to install a controllable figurehead behind a veneer of constitutional continuity. They heavily favor Mojtaba Khamenei, a shadowy figure who has managed his father’s vast financial empire and cultivated deep ties with the security state. If not Mojtaba, the IRGC will elevate an uncompromising hardliner drawn from the Quds Force old guard. The goal is to maintain the ideological facade of the Islamic Republic while ensuring the military vanguard retains absolute authority over the country."

There's more to the article, which is interesting.

God bless or Fallen and injured troops and pray for those still in the fight!!!

I wonder whether the "Christians" this fall in Texas will support an actual disciple of Jesus or another disciple of Orange Jesus?

Blair's avatar

Will be interesting to see if Paxton actually wins the runoff. It must be so tempting for Trump to want to endorse him despite his weaker odds in the general. He has already proven to be extremely corrupt and likely needs Trump to pardon him for his many crimes before Trump leaves office. The guy could become nothing more than Trump's puppet in the senate. I mean most R's in the senate are puppet like already, but I assume they have some limit to their loyalty - A guy that may need a pardon to keep his freedom will have no limit to his puppetry.

It seems insane that the GOP, with a straight face, once considered itself the party of ethics, integrity, and "family values." Actually, it seemed insane at the time. Now it literally IS insane.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Far more ethical than the commie Democrats

Neil McKenna's avatar

Ah, the standard (and wanting) at-least-they're-better-than defense.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Sometimes that is what you have to do, when you are faced with a binary choice.

Neil McKenna's avatar

As a Democrat (who used to occasionally vote Republican), I cannot remember saying anything like that, even once.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Talarico is a fake Christian.

Neil McKenna's avatar

Given some of our recent discussions, I don't think you should be casting any stones in this regard.

Neil McKenna's avatar

Unless you misunderstood what I said, your assertion that you are worthy of casting stones, makes my point.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

I am not casting stones in the sense that I am judging his sins. I am, however, judging him based upon his statements and his actions. He is no more a Christian than Abigail Spanberger is a moderate Democrat.

Neil McKenna's avatar

With regard to the judging of sins, however, there might well have been some rocks flying toward that adulterous woman whom Jesus saved, had you been there that day.

You see, she never asked to be forgiven.

Southern Planter's avatar

Any facts that you'd like to cite, Glen?

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

How about this one? He said that atheists are far more "Christian" than Christians. Or how The Bible does not condemn abortion? Or that homosexual conduct is not a sin? There are 3 examples.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Sources? Do your own research. I don't work for free.

dan's avatar

As was Jesus, at least according to the MAGA "Christians"

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

That is not true. Where do you get this claptrap?

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

By the way, there is no "MAGA" Jesus. There is only Jesus.

dan's avatar
Mar 4Edited

Again, I'm referring to the actual Jesus, not the MAGA Jesus who loves guns, unborn babies, and economic prosperity while hating gays, immigrants, and universal healthcare.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Ah! A straw man. I thought you were referring to the "actual" Jesus, who does love unborn babies and economic prosperity. I don't know where Jesus stands on guns, but suspect he is not against them.

But I do know that "actual" Jesus hates the sin of sodomy. I do know that the "actual" Jesus insisted on adhering to the civil government's laws. And I do know that "actual" Jesus was not a socialist.

Joe Oktavec's avatar

You need another definition of “actual.”

Jackie N Charlotte's avatar

Isn’t it ironic that the great hope for a Dem Senator from Texas is a white guy professing to be a Christian?

Southern Planter's avatar

Well, Talarico actually seems to walk the walk. MAGA "Christians" in Texas, however, seem to be fully behind a corrupt adulterer who still insists that the 2020 election was stolen. Who says history never repeats itself?

rpmschevy's avatar

There you go again lumping a lot of people together in your blind hatred of Trump. As a “former CEO” you should know not to make grandiose general assumptions without actual facts. Since you are support Democrats that don’t fully believe in democracy, then you also don’t believe the USA is a nation with borders?

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Talarico is a poseur. He is no more a Christian than Jasmine Crockett is conservative.

Glen Franklin Koontz's avatar

Paxton is a Christian. Like all people, he is a sinner. And?

Southern Planter's avatar

And a world class sinner at that. Kind of like Trump.

rpmschevy's avatar

Yes they are. Just as you are a sinner SP. And Glen. I recall a verse about a splinter and a plank. Sure it was somewhere. Exactly where did the Bible say we can only vote for those without sin?

Bryan S's avatar

I suspect this will be more and more common if it works in Texas. We will suddenly see the left "get Jesus".

Blair's avatar

Surprised to see Talarico win, but it won't matter. Trump will probably endorse Cornyn now. Either way Texas is not going to have a Democratic Senator.

Something I have been wondering about related to Iran. Since we have finally executed that Iran war plan strategy that Trump "declassified" years ago, took from the Oval Office, and showed off to his guests at Mar A Lago before hiding it in a basement bathroom (not to obstruct investigators, but clearly for his toilet reading pleasure...) - Do you think they may finally fulfill the FOIA requests I made years ago to see this long ago declassified material?

Linda Gray's avatar

I have a quick question for anyone who might know how this works. If you are already a congressman/senator whether state or federal, do you give up your current position to run for a different position? Is Crockett out of a job? Just curious.

God, please protect our military and the military and people of Israel. Amen 🙏🇺🇸🙏

Unaffiliated's avatar

From what I’ve read she’s out. Talarico is the type we’ve seen before. He talks like he’s a moderate Christian man, and will vote like an extreme leftist. I hope the GOP keeps the seat.

Kern's avatar
Mar 4Edited

Kathy is correct. The House Seat was eliminated by redistricting. She was running in the primary for senator, which Talarico won. On the Rep side Paxton and Cornyn are in a runoff as neither got half the vote.

Kathy's avatar

It may vary between states, but in Crockets case, her house seat was eliminated with redistricting and her run for senate was an attempt to stay relevant. I believe in the mid terms, she will be out.

Kern's avatar

Her term lasts until the new Congress is sworn in next January.
