Progressive cheered and conservatives scowled as news broke last night that the Surpeme Court of the United States was allowing the sentencing portion of Trump's New York hush money case to continue.
SCOTUS, or the Sur-peme Court according to Erick, rightfully did nothing regarding immunity for DJT's hush money case. It has nothing to do with official actions while President. Going through this is a consequence of his past actions. Hope we all learn a good lesson from this.
If Trump is truly guilty of 34 felony counts, why did he not receive any sentence from the judge? Truly proof that it was about giving Trump the label, not that he truly offended the state.
Would love to see the convictions appealed during his term and overturned before he leaves office.
He got no sentence because he will soon be president. That’s the only reason. Same reason Jack Smith’s cases will not go to trial. Maybe next time the Republican Party can nominate someone who is not a criminal.
These multiple lawfare efforts were intended to do one of three things (in priority order)
1) Put Trump in jail, disgraced as a cautionary tale.
2) Distraction for Trump and campaign, expecting "mean tweet" guy to emerge and self-immolate.
3) Apply asterisk to POTUS 47 to add to double-asterisk as POTUS 45.
We nominate and elect leaders, imperfect as are all of us. To your point, this election certainly speaks to our nation's predicament that a now-convicted felon is preferable to the Dem's offering 🤪
Your 1, 2, and 3 should actually be reasons 2, 3, and 4. Reason number 1 is, or should be perhaps, “Enforce the law”(even if the law breaker wants to be, is, or was POTUS). And, yes, the Dems offered their worst candidate (pick either one) and so did the Republicans. Once the election was done, we’d all lost.
Please understand my response relates to Dem's intent, not the legal process itself nor Trump's character per se. Dems fear Trump, used anything to bring him down as utilitarians do. Orange Man Bad drove the bus.
Regarding "enforce the law" statement, the letter of law was stretched so far beyond its purpose that upcoming appeals should be pretty simple.
As for "we'd all lost", God is in control regardless of Oval Office occupant du jour. I'll wait and see whether public policy coming from our "criminal" POTUS means we really lost in this election.
Hopefully they won’t go down the path as the current forward thinking president who has decided to pardon people for crimes they may be guilty of in the future. 🧐
It does in the sense precedent set by Biden opens a new can-o-worms, just like Dems' killing filibuster for judicial appointments. Unintended consequences handed to future generations.
To your point, Trump is not forced into some mold so will have his own victories and foibles as POTUS.
I believe he could be sentenced and would have to serve time in jail or be on probation (whatever the sentence would be) after he left the presidency in four years.
Either Trump is guilty of this heinous crime and needs to be punished to the full extent of the law, or he's not and needs to be acquitted, or the charges dropped because the law doesn't deal in trifles.
You're buying into the illogical notion that the only reason he suffers no consequences is because he is president elect and consequences would hamper his duties as President. Judge Merchan knows as much and is also aware that Donald Trump can now appeal. He will appeal and he will win. The stigma of being a convicted felon goes away, except in the minds of the duped.
Call me duped. However, I think that being found liable for sexual assault, barely dodging the cases Jack Smith would have brought, Trump’s record of association with shady characters, and the fact that his own lawyer in his stolen election lawsuits is now bankrupt due to libel, I’d say the duped are those who see the smoke and feel the heat but cannot admit there is a fire.
Not sure that is true. If POTUS-elect were involved in drunk-driving vehicular homicide (a real felony) prior to inauguration, might find him/herself in jail despite these new immunity gesticulations.
What judge knew was the case was inflated artificially, brought to bring down Trump. Failing that, can just tag Trump as a felon and stop dog-and-pony show.
The Left will come to realize this and spin the conspiracy theory ACB knew what was coming because she told the judge to give an unconditional discharge.
As Lavrentiy Beria famously said, "Show me the man and I'll show you the crime". Give powerful people a reason to pursue someone, can find something somewhere to go after him/her. We're all sinners, some have more public/obvious actions to pick from. One might say Trump is a target-rich example.
Yes, he is “target-rich,” but only because he is such a scum bag. Wouldn’t it be nice if Republicans would select candidates that did not have bullseyes tattooed on their backs. Why do we insist on giving ammo to the Dems?
The Dems don’t care either way, as long as they get and keep power, their positions, and the purse. They’ve always been, still are, and always will be, The Party of Hate, Slavery, and Evil.
i think it's ironic that DJT now can't own a firearm but will soon command the use of the most powerful weapons in human history. what a joke. The appeal can't come soon enough. i'm looking forward to the Supreme Court's rationale for ripping the meat from this 'nothing burger.'
SCOTUS was ruling in regards to DJT's immunity as an official act of the president. This hush money case certainly shouldn't and doesn't fall under an official act of the president. Correct call by SCOTUS. Pandora's box would be opened had they decided for Trump.
While I suppose I can understand that Trump isn't thrilled at being officially inaugurated as a "felon", I would think the fact that he can get on with the appeal would be better in the long run. No one but the left and the severe TDS sufferers care at all that they have hung the tag of "felon" on him for this absurd case.
I don't even know why Trump sent it to them in first place! Even a 1st year atty would know best to get it done so can appeal entire thing and Marchon was never going to put him in jail since he won. That type of Trump supporter needs to stop you are not helping him. The one thing DA got right today is everyone D & R need to stop threatening Judges our system is broken enough already. Call them out on a factual basis respectfully and/or file complaints, etc. but stop acting like thugs one can fight back in a civilized manner.
Trumped thanked the Supremes for taking the time. He should, and I think will, move on and let his lawyers appeal this case where it will eventually be thrown under the bus as it deserves. Looking forward to the judicial beat-down that this case will incur to those who brought it and to the judge that oversaw it, as it is being thrown out. Trump should absolutely only refer to it in passing, if asked, and let his lawyers work.
I have to say, one thing I am going to enjoy is hearing the shrieks of rage when some people who don't understand that he can appeal finds out that not only can he, but that he wins. Seems a bunch of folks think that the ruling by the Supreme Court to let the sentencing go forward also meant that the appeal process was over.
Great analysis. I hope the appeal process can move quickly. Regardless, a “no punishment” sentence shows clearly the fraudulent nature of this so-called “trial”.

Trump is not a criminal.
Indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced. Don’t know what your definition of a criminal is, but…

Quotation marks around the word CRIMINAL are not appropriate, as Trump is in fact and by law a criminal. ;)
Hopefully they won’t go down the path as the current forward thinking president who has decided to pardon people for crimes they may be guilty of in the future. 🧐
What the current president does or does not do has nothing to do with what Trump did, does, or does not do.

The outcome of this is a frickin' joke.
Can’t be punished. He is the president elect. The presidency is his get out of jail free card. In no way does it make him any less a criminal.

Not true. That is not “what the judge knew.” Read the judge’s statement.
The Left will come to realize this and spin the conspiracy theory ACB knew what was coming because she told the judge to give an unconditional discharge.
Maybe she just knows he is a criminal.
As Lavrentiy Beria famously said, "Show me the man and I'll show you the crime". Give powerful people a reason to pursue someone, can find something somewhere to go after him/her. We're all sinners, some have more public/obvious actions to pick from. One might say Trump is a target-rich example.

True, but I am not a Dem. I just want decent Republicans.

It's like not letting airline pilots have guns. You do realize they can just fly the plane into the ground, or depressurize and kill everyone.
no, I don't think it's like that at all, but even if it was it would still be ironic! ;-)
Yes a constitutional judge.
Bingo! Very good Erick. Garbage case that can now be appealed and thrown out. Isn’t the corporate media looking a bit like Wiley Coyote right now? 😊
While I suppose I can understand that Trump isn't thrilled at being officially inaugurated as a "felon", I would think the fact that he can get on with the appeal would be better in the long run. Too bad the two cases Jack Smith had did not make it to trial. Good thing for Trump he won the election. Otherwise, he would have ended up in jail.
Our side needs to calm the fu double toothpicks down. Every time something happens they go full Keith Obernan. 🥂😎🇺🇲
Some do get pretty excited pretty quick.

No, it really doesn’t. Only reason there was no punishment is because Trump is soon to be president.
