Last night in New York City, Eric Adams all but became the Democrat nominee for mayor. If he is the Democrats’ nominee, he will become mayor. It will take weeks to determine a winner thanks to ranked-choice voting, which all the kids on Twitter think is cool and really makes elections more complicated and will increase allegations of fraud, suppression, etc.
Adams ran hard against crime. In fact, three of the top four vote winners ran against crime as their big issue.
That brings me to Mordor.
After Jesus cast the legion of demons into the pigs and they ran downhill and drowned, they needed something to do. So they got together in hell and created Twitter.
Pew Research has done an in-depth report on Twitter. It turns out that Twitter is overwhelmingly not of the left, but of the very left. Were Twitter a state, it would be the most progressive state in the nation — further left than Hawaii or Vermont — and if it were a congressional district, it’d be the most Democratic congressional district in the country.
How many corporations have fired someone in the past few years because of what we call “social media outrage,” which is really just Twitter outrage? How many kids have lost scholarships or committed suicide due to Twitter bullies? How many lives have been ruined? How many people have been targeted for harassment? And, circling back, how many corporations have rushed to do damage control, fire employees, cancel sponsorships, etc. due to a few anonymous trolls on Twitter who are then amplified by the American political press?
Eric Adams won in New York City. Had you followed along on social media, you’d have presumed he would lose. He had two percent of Andrew Yang’s Twitter support and Andrew Yang was the first candidate to drop out last night after the results started coming in.
The political press has amplified Yang as a candidate going back to the 2020 presidential race in large part because the political press makes up a contingent of Mordor’s forces on Twitter and serves as the propaganda brigade. Think of all the stories you’ve seen in the past few years that cover outrage from Twitter when it is really five anonymous people with cats for their Twitter photos.
Likewise, consider the Democrats’ opposition to photo ID. Overwhelmingly negative on Twitter, a majority of voters actually favor it. In fact, more black voters support it than white Democrats. It is no coincidence that white Democrats are predominant on Twitter, wherein they see how many black Twitterati hate voter ID and conclude they too must hate it to be in solidarity with black America.
On Twitter, progressives can be assured there is no crime wave. In the real world of New York last night, real people not on Twitter voted to stop a crime wave.
Progressives despise Facebook in large part because its audience is not so far left. The most popular content on Facebook tends to come from conservative sites. It is also far more representative of actual people than Twitter, but also has less of an ability to influence the press and public opinion. Journalists hate Facebook because they blame it for wiping out newspapers. So they’ve gone to Twitter, which they use to shape and form stories. Notice how little antagonism towards Twitter exists in the press, when Twitter, more so than Facebook, is deeply distorting of reality.
Twitter has become a powerful force that can summon the horde of Mordor to destroy a life or advance an agenda. It is also showing itself to be a way for conservatives to win back America. As left-wing opinion is increasingly shaped by Twitter, the right can make a play for real people. The Democrats are increasingly captured by their Twitter base of white progressives. Republicans need to make sure they are not captured by their Twitter base.
The data more and more shows Twitter is not real life. Election results are showing those who equate Twitter with reality will wake up to cold hard truths on Election Day. Journalists, if they have an ounce of self-reflective abilities, should realize they need to spend less time searching the thoughts of Mordor on Twitter and get out into real America.
Lastly, the popular wave of rank choice voting, which will cause New York City to spend weeks determining a winner of the Democrat primary and ultimately the mayor, got started by academics and was picked up by the horde of Mordor rushing across Twitter. Everyone on Twitter thinks it is a good idea. New York City embraced it because the nerds said everyone on Twitter liked it. Now the city realizes it probably should not have done it. Too late.
I’ll be talking about this and taking your calls today 12pm to 3pm ET on the radio. Listen live at http://www.erickericksonshow.com starting at noon eastern time.
Your common sense reminds me of Thomas Paine. Keep up the good work.
And that's why I have nothing to do with Twitter, its Tweets, and the twits who post them. The site's, to me, a vast waste of perfectly good bandwidth which appeals to those who have the same mindset as Zack Weiner, that New York City Council candidate who had those pictures of him in some dominatrix's place, except that those who use Twitter are primarily into the giving and receiving of mental, not physical, pain. No thanks.
