The MAGA jerks harass me with texts and emails - dozens per day. It's down to "history" will not look kindly on those who abandon Trump, You have FAILED, etc etc. These effing jerks need to get a clue: this isn't how you shore up wavering support, it IS how you piss people off and insure they don't support you. I'll write the statement for Perdue: I am withdrawing my campaign in the best interest of the party and the voters. This race is too important for the people of Georgia to risk fracturing the party. Thank you.

This is all interesting to residents of Yorkshire in England who might be vaguely interested in state politics in Georgia. Of course, we have trouble understanding that there is another place near Russia with the same name, and one has heard of the misadventure of Wesley, who was the colonial governor's chaplain back in 1736. It seems that he actually excommunicated a girl who refused to marry him, and nobody thought he was in the right to do this. But fast forwarding to the present day, Mr Perdue has as much right as anybody to be governor of Georgia, and if he is a good Republican he should do at least as well as anyone else in the job!!!

I watched the coverage and photos of the end of the session with the amount of unity that came together for support the Governor's agenda and getting good things done for Georgians.

I couldn't imagine Abrams-Queen of Earth receiving that kind of support under the gold dome. Good heavens, how would she navigate that band of Georgians so steeped in tradition and allegiances.

She'll import cheerleaders from California and Washington DC, and get some Hollywood "celebrities" to tell everyone how wonderful she is...just like leftists always do.

If she gets in office, all she has to do is blame Republicans in the state legislature (and racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, transphobia, white supremacy, the KKK, fascism...oh, and Christianity) for blocking her agenda, she doesn't actually have to accomplish anything.

Wouldn’t it be an honorable exit for Perdue to stand up for Georgia instead of sucking up to Trump and being smacked down by Georgia voters in the primary? I don’t know how he can credibly stand up there and go through the motions that so obviously lack conviction. And it’s a sad way to end a decent career in public office. He should withdraw and endorse Kemp.

David Perdue unfortunately has been sucked in by the "Me. Me. Me, I, I, I" of the former president. I wish President Trump would moderate his persona, but pride comes before the fall. Hopefully Brian Kemp wins both the nomination and the governorship as Stacy Abrams is a carbon copy of the "Me, Me, Me, I, I, I" personality. She like the former president cannot admit that she lost. This time it needs to be decisive, so she can no longer play "It was stolen" from me card. Here is hoping that the Republicans choose someone else in 2024 otherwise we may actually not get the White House back. It will be good to finally vote "for someone" and not simply "against someone." I do wish state campaigns had to be run on in state money

Now let’s hope Herschel sees the light as well. What a terrible candidate with baggage galore and an inability to effectively communicate. I remember your interview with Latham Sadler, a very impressive candidate with very little press coverage

Love Herschel but not as a Senator. He's got no business mucking up the waters. That Senate seat is too important to lose because he got pushed into the race by Trump.

Yes, I agree. He is not a strong candidate and I fear too many people will vote for the football star and not the mind of the man himself. Trumps endorsement is not worth anything. And Herschel won't be an impressive addition to our senatorial team. I'm considering others, foremost among them Latham Sadler.

If Kemp wins....which I think he will. It would not surprise me to see a DeSantis/Kemp ticket in 2024. I would like that very much!

No ! we need good governance by good men. They’ll loose that ability in the WH. The pandemic showed how much power bad governors have as well as good governors can tout. They are doing wonderful things for the people of their state.

As always, great analysis. The addition of the call-out box is fantastic! You have an ability to boil significant concepts, analysis & insights down to a succinct statement. I hope you feel comfortable continuing this Erick!

Erick, what a good article on the why and how of Perdue's campaign. I like David Perdue, but I am voting for Kemp. Brian Kemp has done a good job for Georgia except for getting tricked by Abrams before the last election to allow processes that invited fraud. He has fixed that accommodation to protect election integrity. He has earned another term in my eyes.

Sounds like a little competition has been great. Kemp was likely more aggressive in his agenda and you write it for more support than expected as a reaction to Perdue. I don’t see anything to complain about.

It worked out that way for Kemp, but that's because Perdue was so blindingly bad in this campaign cycle. Timing is everything, but I don't think Perdue's bad timing can be given credit for Kemp's good use of it.

Agree, it takes two for a result in this case.

Perdue sold his soul for a quixotic run at windmills. For years he will be remembered for this blunder. He as well as those who brought him to this point should be ashamed

You are so right. Perdue has let Trump use him for his own childish ends. He got talked into a campaign that is going nowhere. It would be best for Perdue to end his campaign now and then get busy and help re-elect Gov. Kemp.
