So why are we surprised, because we shouldn’t be? Plus, Erick, the US is finally equalizing US tariff expenses by charging tariffs from other countries; creating a wash on tariffs between countries which is the same as your idea to drop tariffs to zero. Trump will negotiate down on some tariffs to counter negative pundits for now, but he’s not giving up the tariff plan ever. It will work in the long run, after it “hurts for a little while”.
AI is as much to blame for unemployment as are the tariffs screwing up everything.
50-year mortgages and 15-year car loans are absolutely ludicrous. The fact that so many have had to do 5-year auto loans is crazy! By the time you pay off that car it’s time to buy another one because it’s falling apart. We have become a throw away society. Manufacturing is crap!
NO $2,000 stimulus checks. That may fix the immediate problem but is not a solution. As a retiree I haven’t gotten any of the other ones either.
All it takes is one generation and we fall to socialism/communism. Foreigners do NOT belong in any of our educational, city, state, federal governing bodies. EVER.
I don’t have to listen to anybody, I can see for myself (single guy, based on income, outgo) it isn’t any better. Things like fast food, beef, bacon, and eggs were once staples for me and now are occasional treats.
Dissatisfaction with the status quo in 2008 birthed the greatest leftward lurch at the ballot box of my lifetime. With academia dumbing down every graduating class, don’t think it can’t happen again.

Congress has become like a teenager at the mall with a credit card that has no limit. You may think 100k spent on a treadmill for shrimp is just a pittance but it would have taken me 3 years to earn that much money and I had a very good job. It’s the economy stupid.
I don’t have a degree in economics but I feel that I’m more qualified to give advice to our president. He needs to stop listening to his rich advisers and get it together! We are doomed if he continues this route. I’m tired of the blame games, the fake president is no longer in power, he needs to give it up. What the hell happened to “Make America Great Again”? I’m still waiting.
Let’s see: cut taxes, raise spending, which means inflation and retirement savings worth less. Car loans and extended mortgages are a win for the bank. Trump is heading off the rails.
As a 15 year mortgage champion and a zero car loan believer, the 50 and 15 is appalling. The way I live, I notice the prices of very few things, gas being one, but I believe when people say prices aren't going down across the board. But if people look at the current situation and decide socialism is better, they are so monumentally ignorant that we have to accept that the country will crash and burn before people smarten up.
I don't finance cars, but with four vehicles in our household of two, the NEWEST is 10 years old, the oldest is 30 years old. The other two are almost 19 years old. Only the 30 year old was bought new.

EE - This Republican dogma about cutting taxes has to end. Its really the only meaningful legislation that Trump accomplished in his first term and it seems to be the only economic idea of the GOP. The problem is we only ever cut taxes but never cut spending (no more tax cutting until the spend cuts happen first) We don't get to cut taxes anymore when we are a few years away from $50 trillion in debt. Honestly we should be cutting spending and raising taxes. The only bipartisanship I have really seen in my life involves the opposite: increasing spend and reducing taxes. We are broke and screwing over our kids. It needs to stop.
The only time we've ever really raised taxes and cut spending (in my lifetime) was under Bill Cllnton and we had 8 years of truly great GDP growth. 35% corporate tax rates and corporations did great.
Trump's first term economy for first three years was basically identical to last three years of Obama's. and it wasn't great by any measure.

Totally agree, end the tariff madness today, but we know that will not happen.
And worse Trump is descending into total denial on the affordability reality.
The challenge for the American right is to resist socialism with coherence and reliance on history , that socialism destroys value not create it.
