Erick have you ever read Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln? It is a 2005 book by Pulitzer Prize-winning American historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, published by Simon & Schuster. The book is a biographical portrait of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln and some of the men who served with him in his cabinet from 1861 to 1865. I hope Trump read it.

Im going to say this wrong but trying to type as I ride roller coasters at Universal. Soooo do we keep the parties separated where we lemmings keep voting like our party is our favorite football team? Or is this game plan smarter to make the party more palatable for moderates but at the same time run the risk of making both parties indecipherable from one another which at its worst could accidentally lead us to the 1 rule party that we have been fighting to keep from materializing?

I am sure I messed up that mind dump but was in between rides….

Need to read “team of rivals”.

Some of those people Lincoln appointed did a 180 from their previous beliefs.

She’s not a good pick. But if she’s that bad she won’t get confirmed. There has been plenty of rejections in the past.

And Trump does owe a tip of the hat to unions and as much as I don’t like them they do have their uses.

I’m not saying I’m for this pick but it isn’t the end of the world either.

Plus Trump has the authority to fire her if she doesn’t play properly in the kiddie pool.

Same with the treasury pick. He doesn’t work for soros anymore.

I worked for a company that had a horrible reputation and I left because of it. Does that mean I’m in line with that company’s beliefs?

Give it time.

4D chess? I'm not sure Trump knows how to play checkers given some of the nominees he is putting up. I was fully expecting Trump to choose Florida's Dr. Ladapo for this post...boy, was I shocked and disappointed. A horrible pick and hoping she doesn't get confirmed.

One thing Trump has to remember Union leadership and Union membership are completely different half of the members feel they are forced to join. They don’t vote the way they are told they vote with there wallet. If union members voluntarily paid there dues instead of it being taken out of there pay check the unions would be broke so ya she’s a bad pick and should be stopped but I’m not going to start bad mouthing Trump right now because his cabinet is not the supposed gold standard I have yet to see a perfect cabinet from Nixon to the present clowns we have now

Where is this sainted Chief of Staff that we were all hearing about when this was going on? A lot of these do not have the ring of consulting his top people. This is very disappointing.

So why did he pick this person? For the most part, they’ve been good picks. What was the reason for this one?

It's been suggested that Trump might have been told which departments he could pretend to make conservative and those he could not. Treasury and Labor for two were not to be meddled with. "You wouldn't want anything to ever happen to any of your family, Mr. president, would you? As you well know the history of such tragedies is out there, so be wise."

Richard, there was a time where I would have replied to this with a snarky "Conspiracy much?"

But not anymore, sadly.

Maybe Trump is trying to have people that might work together to help things.

Manufacturings in the US have a difficult time competing.

Tariffs in other countries are very high.

OSHA and EPA regulations cost our companies a lot more than in other countries.

If you are reading through the Bible using the M'Cheyne Reading Plan, today's reading told a tragic story. King David had a history of consulting God before making momentous decisions. He was a good king but also a fallible human being. Completely on his own initiative, he conducted a census meant to boost his ego. It was a terrible decision that resulted in the death of 70,000 of his subjects. As Trump launches his second term, I pray that he will learn from David's folly. Yes, Erick is right - choosing your cabinet members matters. Oh that it will be done with a season of prayer from this point forward. I encourage any one who reads this in joining me in praying that President Trump will gain the humility to lead as a Godly leader and not as a people pleaser.

Amen to that! Trump seems to lack wisdom when it comes to some of his picks. Where is his staff to advise him on these terrible selections? Trump seems to think if I like their personality and they seem to like me-they are fit for the job. I am not a real smart person, but I think any average conservative could do a better job than this in making selections. Let us pray some of these will be rejected by the Senate and better people will be picked.

Could I point out that some of what you think are horrible choices, others think are really good ones? The labor one, yes, seems really bad. But a lot of people, me included like most of the rest. So your opinion of "terrible" is maybe not the criteria by which he is choosing.

Thanks for pointing this out to

me Kathy. His good choices certainly outweigh the bad. However, his 4 or 5 questionable picks are bothersome. A true conservative, i.e. Ronald Reagan, would have never selected so many bad ones, in my opinion.

This. This is why so many of us held our nose when we voted for Trump. He often seems to say all the right things, and may even do the right things much of the time. Yet too frequently he listens to the power hungry harpies around him and then makes baffling choices.

Now that he's untouchable, Donald Trump's model as head of government seems to be far less Ronald Reagan than Richard Nixon . . . or possibly Otto von Bismarck.

This is the man who nominated Gaetz to be AG. Gaetz! If he could go that far off the rails on such a critical nomination, should we really be surprised when he picks a few more from Crazy Town? The MAGAs wanted chaos and disruption, why all the complaints when they get exactly what they voted for?

Expand full comment

He knew Gaetz wouldn't make it through confirmation. This was a brilliant way to get him out of the way! I'm sure Mike Johnson is thrilled he's gone. He was the insane trouble maker who got the last Speaker removed.
