It is hard to tell people who do not believe in Heaven and Hell to let God take care of things. The progressive left, secular with no view of afterlife, has gotten so far into cancel culture because they believe if they don’t mete out justice in this life, the jerk will have gotten away with it.
Thus they have decided Donald Trump is guilty of something. They aren’t really sure what, but they know he is guilty of something other than beating Hillary. Impeachment failed because of Republicans. Now they must take matters into their own hands.
So we arrive in New York City, a district attorney, and payments to a porn star.
The left will say, yes, we must impose justice. If we don’t, who will, and justice must be done.
It’s selective. There are plenty of times the left doesn’t want justice imposed on their own side. But this isn’t their own side, so justice must be done.
The right will say it is too divisive. It is. A local DA in New York has investigated Trump so thoroughly, he knows the number of polyps in Trump’s colon. They searched and searched and searched some more until they could find something they could nail on Trump.
A lot of Americans will understand that justice that comes from a relentless search by political opponents at all levels of government to find a charge, any charge, to pin on the guy, is not really justice. It is vindictiveness. It will further scrape scabs and let wounds fester.
It also makes Trump the center of attention again; the place he craves and is at his best. The people who want him to fade, need him in the spotlight. This benefits all of them and their fundraising, not the nation. All the way back to Ancient Greece, the philosophers and scholars of the day knew that justice for the sake of justice that causes the world to burn is not really justice. But it is vengeance and sometimes the two look and feel the same to zealots.
Too many people on the right are going to behave in ways the left is baiting them into playing. Remember, in 2022, Americans signaled they’d like to move on. This is the ultimate move to hold the GOP back, tie them to Trump, and watch them behave in ways that alienate the largest portion of the electorate — the ones who simply do not care and are tired of it all.
The best advice I can offer is from Paul. “Be angry, but do not sin.” Ephesians 4:26.
Amen to the article .
To also quote from Ephesians, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
You can protest maybe with phone calls, letters or emails, but I would say stay off the streets. Keep your powder dry, so to speak, and prepare for the primaries and elections. Because this could get ugly real fast to the country’s demise and those of us who are Christians- our witness.
Great analysis and an even better closing. Th objective is not to rise to the bait but to respond in ways the opponent doesn’t expect. If there ever was a time for stoic resolve, this is it. As Erick points out, everyone will see the frothing sputtering nonsense from the left for what it is. We should not hinder their efforts to expose their excesses. Whether this solidifies the right behind Trump or whether it is used to focus all of us on the need to restore the Constitution for all of us remains to be seen. I am hoping for the latter choice.
