This is me just venting, not even about this.

I will NEVER give another dime to the republican party. I've gotten more text messages in the past week. I can't "STOP" or "END" them. They come from different numbers. So now, I just report junk and block. So sick of getting spammed to death.

Thanks for the space to write.

So frustrating. Hard to find real journalism these days, instead of party propaganda.

We all need to “flag” the lamestream media and avoid it.

I was talking about this flag last night (in a different context than the SC) with some of my liberal friends. They had never heard of this flag before. Even when I showed it to them they had no idea. So, maybe all but the most vehemently leftist tropes in the media are the only ones actually talking about this.

Tolerant?? They demand affirmation, anything less is violence.

Back in the 1990s, the liberal media gave extensive coverage to Bill Clinton having sex with Monica, diverting attention from the real scandal, Clinton had sold classified military technology to Communist China.

Nope, Erick, yet again I disagree, I eschew your Whataboutism, and think you are missing the larger point.

The issue is not the fabric being flown. (Well, it kinda is, see below, but let me make this point first). The primary issue is that it is unseemly and improper for a Supreme Court Justice to appear partisan or political AT ALL. Flying an insurrectionist’s flag or the US flag upside down as a sign of distress? REALLY, that’s ok?

I note you completely failed to mention why the SCOTUS justices don’t clap or stand at the State of the Union. They remain stoic. Why is that, Erick? Explain it to the lemmings on here.

As to the fabric itself. If that fabric has been so co-opted by a group or side, its meaning can change. I seriously doubt when you see the repulsive Dixie Stars and Bars today you say “wow, that person must have had a relative that served in Lee’s Army in Northern Virginia or at Antietam.” https://www.nps.gov/anti/learn/historyculture/flags.htm#:~:text=The%20Confederate%20Battle%20Flag%20%E2%80%93%20a,carried%20by%20Confederates%20at%20Antietam.

Of course you don’t! Because that symbol has been so co-opted as to take on a whole new meaning. Hopefully you respond with disgust, because that’s the same flag the GA General Assembly (all white male racists) hoisted to oppose Brown v Board of Education in 1956. Every Black Georgian knows this. It should cause us deep shame as a state. I anm no fan of the man on many counts, but I applaud Gov Barnes for trying to rid us of it.

It’s the same flag racists and NeoNazis fly today. That’s the flag the Jan 6 crowd with their shaman carried into the capitol. A sign of rebellion and insurrection and racism today, just as it was in the Civil War.

The point is (a) it is wholly improper for a SCOTUS justice to do this and (b) the justices should want NO PART of associating with the events on Jan 6 in ANY WAY. It sends a message of partisanship and division. It undermines trust in SCOTUS. If you deny this truth you’re a bigger simp than I imagined, and show that you’re going all in for that coveted national radio show syndication, principles be damned.

I betcha if Kagan or Sotomayor did this you’d be all over that, like a pit bull on a poodle. Can’t you admit this is completely improper?

You say meanings can change and you are correct, however, there comes a point where you have to stand up though and say enough is enough! The left has consistently changed the meanings of just about everything. Every word is a "code" for some deeper meaning they attached to it. Everything is offensive to somebody these days. At this rate there will be no flags or anything else except those things approved by the left. I get some of you think you can mind read as to what we are "really meaning" about everything and love to attach it to something you can point to but you don't have a clue. You say "It sends a message of partisanship and division" but it also means Freedom, respect for our country to us. What about all the comments/actions over the years from your side that are certainly more concerning to our democracy such as, paraphrasing here "I can't tell you what a woman is". As a woman I certainly find that sends a message of partisanship and division not to mention insanity. I could go on but the point is not everyone who has a flag from our past believes it is what you all claim it now stands for because it doesn't. To recuse a Supreme Court Judge for it absurd, plus you are making it unsafe for Americans by claiming it is. Where were you when an assassination attempt was practically ignored? Judges Kagan or Sotomayor can feel free to fly an American flag anytime they want and I hope they do!

“My side??” I’m a conservative, madam. Who is becoming more profoundly disappointed every day by our own. Including those on this thread.

The rioters on Jan. 6th carried American flags right-side-up. Using your reasoning the US flag has been co-opted, therefore changing it's meaning. Ridiculous.

No; but a SCOTUS justice flying it upside down as a “symbol of distress” after Jan 6 is completely improper. Full stop. Whether it’s a protest or a neighbor dispute. Full stop.

Don't you get it? These lifetime-appointed men and women are supposed to be apolitical! Above it all! Better than that! The one branch of the federal government that’s nonpartisan, whom we are supposed to trust!

Somebody who thinks the Army of Northern Virginia battle flag featuring a St. Andrew’s Cross is the “Stars and Bars” needs to gain some humility. The “Stars and Bars” was so named because it resembled the United States flag, especially at a distance.

Expand full comment

Whatever! I cited the NPS article, Bill. Which states: “The Confederate Battle Flag – a red square with the blue St. Andrews Cross and thirteen stars – was more distinguishable from the U.S. flag in the confusion of combat. It was this flag that was issued to the Army of Northern Virginia in the Spring of 1862 and was primarily carried by Confederates at Antietam.“

You wanna come at me over nomenclature without addressing the substance of what I said. A true Erick-Son-Of-Erick acolyte, I see.

In my humble opinion, there is no doubt The Left is absolutely "hell-bent" on keeping power and control. But after carefully and thoughtfully watching what they have done, said and how they have twisted both words and actions I believe there is truly an evil element within or among them. Sad, very sad for a Nation!

Funny thing about flags- I saw hundreds of flags and signs flown by the crowd on Jan 6 including one Confederate flag. Guess which flag was on the front page of the NYT and WaPo (as well as the papers in Europe where I was living at the time...)

We all have our opinions, and mine is that Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals" is THE playbook of the left. For any of you unfamiliar with it, just Google quotes from the book and you'll immediately recognize them in the actions of the left. "Rules" is an instructional booklet on how to initiate revolution with the objective of overthrowing capitalism.

"Once upon a time there was real unbiased media", and so the fiction begins. In real life we have mostly really bad messaging sites for the DNC that pose as MSM. My belief, the MSM tells the truth when a plane hits the ground, when there is a big fire or earthquake, things that are obvious catastrophic events. Anything outside of this most of the MSM is useless blather or propaganda for the left. They do not deserve my time. I have better things to do then cross reference an article to verify if it is factual.

But even the more obvious, catastrophic events are linked to global warming or Republican policy whenever possible. ANYTHING to create doubt in the reader's / listener's / viewer's mind.

I'm so tired of the games played by both parties. I understand the importance of how politics shape the society we live in, but real life is happening to most people and it's sometimes very difficult. Most don't have time for these created distractions in this culture of nonsense.
