Well, wait until the corruption records via Biden and Zelenskey are released. No, that will not happen, just as the records of the JFK takeout, Jeff Epstein lists, and Obama's records will not be released. My guess is Zelenskey will go into foreign country exile with his foreign accounts where they are set up. "People close to President Trump tell me often that, privately, Donald Trump is on Ukraine’s side and understands we cannot allow Russian expansionist desires to be fed. But, they claim, President Trump is making these public statements to both force Ukraine to come to terms with the fact that it must give up territory to settle this war and to lure Russia into negotiations, thinking the American position will be more favorable to Russia than it is. That is the big enigma.
If this rhetoric isn’t some 4 dimensional chess negotiating move to outflank the Russians then we need to stop using the phrase “leader of the free world.” We ain’t no more. It’s every nation for themselves.
And for the record, I don’t think it is. I hope I’m wrong.
Please research and report on Ukraine’s law 3894 which, apparently, is forcefully shutting down the historic Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and replacing it with a state-sanctioned church. And research and report on its priests being tortured and imprisoned. This is not to justify Russia, but calls for a sober, honest investigation of Zelenskyy and his iron fisted government.
They didn’t shut down the church. They just took the government owned land on which the churches stood, and then gave it to another church. Donald Trump did roughly the same thing when he tried to remove funding from sanctuary cities.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is a state supported church. That state just happens to be Russia. So, the Ukrainians are just removing a church that supports Russia, and substituting a church that supports Ukraine. State controlled churches are a normal thing in that area of the world. All they really did was take back the property which the government owns and give it to another church. They’re not persecuting them, running them out of the country, killing them.
Mr. Monty. Not arguing with you or anyone. I am interested in the state suppression of religious freedom. Law 3894, it turns out, is a lengthy document. I started to read an analysis of it, but would rather walk on glass. What I did gather is that using a borderline interpretation of religious freedom and stretching it to related to national security, the law bans the Russian Orthodox Church because Russia is conducting war against Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church had severed its oversight relationship with the ROC some time ago. Law 3894 also gave the 5-year old (that is new) Orthodox Church the right to seize the churches, monasteries, and other properties of the long-established Orthodox Church. More than technical arguments, methinks. It is a new line of inquiry to me.
That is the public perception, but it does not appear to be truth. Posit: (hypothetic) The U.S. Congress declares one of our denominations to be a front for the Chinese government. Does our Congress/President have a right to shut them down and to create a US-Sanctioned Chinese church?
Erick, you ignore all the culpability of the soft power corruption of the US that contributed to Putin's invasion of Ukraine. What if there was a CU (Communist Unions) of China, Iran, North Korea and Russia) and Mexico was discussing becoming part of that. The US would be justified in doing everything it could to prevent that.
Putin and Russia are certainly the aggressors, but US and EU foreign policy and the actions of our deep state apparatus are the instigators. The EU was sucking on Russian oil and gas thus delaying the economic impacts of Russian sanctions, and now the EU has the effeminate stones to cry that the US does not keep sending tens of billions to Ukraine.
I just wonder if anyone damning Trump for what he said about Zelensky has listened to what Rubio said about why Trump said it and why the hostility has increased between Trump and Zelensky. Seems that a lot of people are absolutists who think it doesn't matter what Zelensky does or says, we should keep shoveling out the cash.
i think your reaction to Trump's recent remarks make sense, but miss an important point...viz., it's not either/or, it's both/and. Both Zelensky and Putin are guilty of decisions which have resulted in unnecessary deaths on both sides. Putin is not an angel, but neither is Zelensky. Trump's most consistently stated goal is to 'stop the killing!' Jeffrey Sachs gives an interesting (and convicting) background on the conflict. Trump's 'stream of consciousness' statements may not be as goofy as he is sometimes accused. Time will tell if his goal to stop the killing AND secure economic advantage for the U.S. is successful.
Apparently Zelenskey likes to talk out of both sides of his mouth according to sec of state Rubio. Maybe a little deeper probe into this might be in order before we start getting our panties in a wad
Looking at Yahoo's opening page it certainly does look like his comments are doing us no favors. He needs to slow down a bit and realize he is giving the Dems what they want in real areas to question his actions. After the disastrous CA fires cuts to Forest Service should have been done with a scalpel not a hatchet and probably not this year, get in and see how interconnected their jobs actually are first. We do want accountability, etc. but take the time to do it right especially in areas of public safety. The left will twist everything anyway but bad look to have to reverse action or walkback comments. He will lose the borderline voters he has now and will need in midterms. Public opinion with help from left media can shift as all these cuts will hurt (even if great in long run) as there will be a lot of voters who will have been, or know someone effected by them and that is what they will remmber.
If people are interested, read the book “The Devil’s Chessboard” to see how the CIA (with our government’s blessing) has screwed up other countries for the USA benefit.
I have guesses on why Trump may have said what he said, but here is a novel idea: ASK HIM! He gives numerous press conferences (unlike sleepy Joe).
A reporter should ask him, "Mr. President you say Ukraine started the war and Zelensky is a dictator. Most people - to include some of your supporters - disagree. Can you tell us why you think Ukraine started the war and why Zelensky is a dictator realizing that the Ukraine constitution allows for him to cancel elections under martial law?"
Maybe Trump is saying this as a negotiating tactic and maybe he really believes it. But one thing is sure - if you ask him, he will tell you what he thinks.
Thanks. I begin to get suspicious when people don’t ask questions about what appear to be obvious disconnects. In my experience, when they ignore the obvious questions they are usually afraid of the answer and that they may be wrong.
I think there is more to Trump's comments that he hasn't shared so this is the perfect solution. I admit to not being the best at Russia/Ukraine history. I saw another comment that advocated giving Crimea back to Russia and that might be something that could work. Can't wait for Rubio to weigh in. Again, thanks.
My biggest issue with support to the Ukraine as a retired combat veteran is their draft age being 25. And that was only recently changed from 27. If you’re fighting for your existence then the draft age should be at least 18. I have never seen this fact brought out in the media which makes me more suspicious of this whole morality play.
Nothing will change in our country until the guilty and irresponsible refuse to repent and turn from their wicked ways - that includes each of us - since we are not perfect!
We have to be willing to criticize Trump when he deserves it and it this case, he does. I'm not in favor of "blank check" aid nor am I naive enough to think the only way to win the war is a total Ukrainian victory. But, for goodness' sake, let's get who the enemy is (and was)!

The Trump honeymoon has come to an end

General Kellogg is posting positive negotiations from Kyiv. So, that’s good.

Sorry, but there's a little revisionism in your post.

Great perspective! I like this! Thank you.

Why the hell should Ukraine cede ANY territory to Putin? Russia is MASSIVE. Ukraine is the size of a football field by comparison.
