The end effect is largely the same. To avoid the admission of the Zero COVID error the interventions keep ratcheting up with the promise that the next one will be the last one needed.

Understanding the science behind COVID-19 is providing some level of mitigation strategies (vaccines, social distancing, masks) while our government embraces these mitigations as significantly more effective than Science itself supports. That's where the arrogance and hubris comes in. People are generally lazy. They do not balance news and factors any more. Whatever one can convey in 10 seconds becomes defacto "truth".

The science related to this is very clear. Covid is not limited to humans. In one test, 33% of the whitetail deer tested had covid-19 antibodies. Even if we vaccinated every human alive, variants would be developing in the deer, cats, ferrets and other mammals that can covid-19. Fauci has known all along that surgical masks and cloth masks do not provide protection. Only a N-95 respirator that is properly fitted and tested will trap the virus. If you remember, his initial stance was that they will not have any benefit. He and other public health officials were under pressure to "do something" so the mask recommendation became a way to at least provide an optic of them trying to curb the spread. Now that it has gotten political, they are too dug in to admit they are of no benefit.....and the citizens of this country are suffering the consequences.
