Tone Deaf Politics: Democrats Erase Motherhood

“Birthing people.” That’s the new term Democrats have started using to replace “mother” because according to the new progressive orthodoxy men can have babies too. It started a few weeks ago with a congressional hearing. Grabien put this together:

It has expanded from there to the Biden Administration’s latest budget. They’ve kept in “maternal,” but deleted “mom.” Now it is “birthing people.”

The text of Biden's record-breaking $6 trillion budget, unveiled last month, includes a section highlighting more than $200 million in health care spending aimed at reducing the "high rate of maternal mortality and race-based disparities in outcomes among birthing people."

Normal people don’t talk like this. Normal people do not want to eradicate mothers any more than normal people think men can suddenly become women and boys can hop onto the girls’ team, beat them, and be declared girls.

Even within transgenderism, the thought process competes with the ideology. These boys are either girls or they are not. To give a boy an award as a girl, but then declare him to be the “first transgender female to win” means inherently he is not a she. Otherwise, there’d be no first.

To repeatedly use the word maternal in the Biden budget while swapping out mothers in favor of birthing people makes no sense either.

This is a social contagion — a mass hysteria on the left and in academia. They started with Latinx and have moved on to birthing people. Just as they’ve alienated Latino voters, they’ll now alienate mothers.

A few weeks ago, James Carville railed on Democrats for their refusals to focus on Trump and tie the GOP to January 6th. He also blasted them for adopting the language of the faculty lounge.

Carville is increasingly an outsider to the Democrats despite his successes. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which runs House races for Democrats, is increasingly advising Democrats to avoid all references to Donald Trump. Now the Biden Administration is letting the faculty lounge write its budget.

It is almost as if they just expect to lose in 2022 and are laying the groundwork for internal recriminations against the far left.
