Please read this editorial on the left side of the newspaper page. I’ll explain why afterwards.
Now, here is what you need to know: The Hinds County Chancery Court in Mississippi has ordered the local newspaper, without even giving it a hearing, to delete the editorial and take it off-line so no one can read it.
At a time when the American Vice President is lecturing Europe on free speech, we should condemn a court effort anywhere in this country that seeks to silence a free press raising awareness about a tax increase.
By the way, the county admitted in court that it never did tell the media about the public hearing.
If the people of Hinds County MS fail to impeach and remove that judge they'll deserve what they get
Everybody loves free speech and freedom of the press...until it gets in the way of an agenda. We had a push several years ago here to fund a pension plan for sheriff's deputies. You know, because they do a dangerous job, yada yada. I voted in favor it. I should of been smarter and asked why we should do a pension instead of funding a regular retirement account like most people have, with the associated risks, but that's on me. BUT...as it turns out, the sheriff's dept actually wound up putting every Tom, Dick and Harriett that had anything to do with the department on the pension plan. Administrative positions? Yep. Very dangerous work, you know. Anyway, it's the same old, same old. And, who need honesty when we're taking about helping the men and women in blue? Or khaki, or cashmere, or fine tailored suits. Wonder what the judge in Mississippi will get from the new tax revenue? That just sucks out loud.
