Wage War and Kill Them

Four Americans have been taken captive by a Mexican drug cartel. The Americans crossed from Texas into Mexico. They were allegedly confused for smugglers by a drug cartel that did not want the competition. The Americans were actually in Mexico for medical procedures.

They are not alone. In 2021, 625 Americans were kidnapped in Mexico by cartels. In 2020, 831 Americans were kidnapped. (Source) In January of 2022, a gay couple from Texas were tortured, shot, and dismembered by a Mexican drug cartel. Most are dual citizens and some are green card holders. It is unacceptable.

107,000 Americans died last year from fentanyl smuggled in from Mexico. As a mother testified to Congress last week, we'd take it seriously if the Chinese were amassing on our Southern border. If it were Al Qaeda, we would fight. But since the Mexican drug cartels are pouring poison, human trafficking victims, and front-line cartel soldiers on and across the border, neither the Congress nor the President will act.

This is a bipartisan failure. The last president loudly had conservatives push him to designate Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. The present President, likewise, is getting pressure to do so. Neither has.

Designating these groups as terrorist groups would make it easier for state and federal law enforcement to go after not just the cartels but also the American lawyers, accountants, and others who help them.

In Colombia, in the nineties, we worked with the government there in secret operations to destroy the cartels. In Mexico, the government itself is most likely in the pocket of the cartels.

We cannot stand around on diplomatic niceties. 4 Americans have been kidnapped and over 100,000 will die from cartel supplied fentanyl this year. It is time to go to war with them, destroy their facilities, kill their lietenants, and bring hell to the cartels.
