I am not surprised with of how the US Supreme Court and especially of how Trump reacted with the news not going his way. Trump's post on his social media platform is a broken record and petty. Cooler heads would probably stay off of social media to "vent" in a case like this, but Trump has to let everyone know, even though some of his own supporters do not want to know. Once again, Trump's reasoning before the case reached the US Supreme Court, rested on the advice from those advisors who were probably hired more for their loyalty to Trump instead of being the best.
All the people celebrating this decision on the right have no idea what might be coming as a result. It's baffling to me that after 10+ years people have not finally learned that Trump does not behave like a normal POTUS (or human being for that matter) would when these things happen. He is not likely to accept this decision and go about his business. Nothing will convince him that he doesn't / shouldn't have this power. This could be the domino that leads to an incredible and unrelenting assault on our constitution (again). The fallout from this could break the Republican party as we know it. You don't take away a lunatic toddlers safety blanket when that toddler (mentally) happens to be POTUS / cult leader of the base of a political party.
That or I could just turn out to be full of ish on this one, but we will soon see.... Pass the popcorn
Trump was using the wrong federal statue as those in the legal profession would say " his point of authority. it seems once again Trump is getting some bad advice from those in the administration, but I am not surprised because instead of having those who actually know things, Trump is getting his advice from those who have pledge their loyalty to him instead of the cause. Sometimes, you may not get the brightness with double downing on loyalty and today showed that once again like a broken record, Trump is not putting his best forward.
No federal statue gives him the unilateral ability to impose taxes by fiat, taxes / tariffs are the job of congress. The statues he is trying to use now also don't apply and will be struck down as well. This is it for his tariff play time if he adheres to the courts / constitution.
"...a bad one for those who became emotionally invested in the idea that the Court would give Trump whatever he wanted." Unlike the decision on Obamacare, in which the court, particularly Roberts, succumbed to the pressure from the Obama administration.
This is part of the ancillary benefit of Trump's second term. The things he doesn't "Get Away With" are limiting and defining on the executive. In the future, we will be pointing to a lot of the court cases Trump loses to limit overreach by a Democrat in the White House. I'm fine with it.
Jeff Childers & the "Coffee/Covid" substack are going to go full nuclear over this. I guess Liberation Day last year is not as great and permanent as they thought. They will probably blame the Left for this, and the Left has a lot to answer for. But this one is squarely on the shoulders of the Orange Man.
Trump goes on to mention Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act, which is widely known for actually significantl worsening the Great Depression. It is like no one studies history anymore?
Trump's press conference plus Bissent saying the public will never see the 175 billion (essentially a huge illegal tax that we are keeping) are just tone deaf.
it seems that Trump didn't studied history, in particular the political downside of then Nixon's price controls. At times Trump acts in ways that are inconsistent of him being a business person. The tariffs which he has pushed, yeah there has been announcements of investments that have come and gone, but in the last year there are no examples which he nor none of members of his administration have shown "ground being broken" starting construction of a new factory somewhere here in this republic taking place. Trump is concern about price affordability, then Trump or someone in his administration say we are in talks to re-start the LX pipeline which Biden ended in 2021 with a stoke of a pen or come up with an alternative to what Obama signed into law forcing insurers to cover for medical procedures that men don't have and out lawing medium to small companies employers to be able form insurance pools as to be able to provide medical coverage to their employees- something that probably be attractive to young workers?
You mean the "Golden Age" is not here? I don't think Trump studied Economics either. The investments in factories? Not seeing that. Has anyone seen the expansion of steel manufacturing? I could go on, but Trump is all hat no cattle, and always has been
the Trump administration haven't shown pictures of new factories being built as a result of all of those investments - "showing the receipts" or actual physical proof of what is being "invested", but it seems that Trump nor any in his administration has shown what actual proof that everyone can see with their eyes.
Our country's steel manufacturing - most of it is from the 1930's which is very economical inefficient compared to rest of how it made around the world which is more economical efficient and profitable.
"...a bad one for those who became emotionally invested in the idea that the Court would give Trump whatever he wanted."
You think that this is a MAGA viewpoint Erick? I never expected the court to simply side with Trump and think many, if not most of MAGA feel and think similarly. With the exception of Justice Ketanji BJ, law is law and actions are either constitutional or not. I don't fault Trump for creative applications of existing law, although I would think his legal support staff should be a bit sharper out of the gate.
just watched the press conference - a couple of thoughts:
I assume that all of you who degrade the left for trying to delegitimize the court will for some reason give Trump a pass for calling the court disgraceful, democrats controlled, swayed by threat of violence from the left, etc. etc.
Here is what going to happen - These tariffs are going to become the next toxic obsession (just another link in the long crazy chain of his unhinged lunacy from Obama's birth certificate to crowd size, to stolen election, to Greenland) He is going to double down on this, He will embargo, he will use other bs statutes, he will outright defy the ruling or some combination of above. All the usual Rs in congress and media will go along with whatever the f_ck he wants and justify / rationalize his upcoming shenanigans.
EE you may want to get out in front of the sh_tshow that's coming from the imminent temper tantrum to end all temper tantrums - this is going to make his 2020 rigged election tirade look like child's play - go ahead and pick a side: The constitution or this dufus sack of excrement. Easy choice but for the fact that your audience will choose the excrement...
And I thought Pam Bondi came off bad the other day. For any Trump supporters who watched that press conference, what would he have to do to embarrass you; turn around, drop his pants and moon everybody?
well anyone whose read his "truths" over the years or heard him speak for more than 5 minutes that doesn't already realize what he is probably never will.
The supposed "dissent" reads more like a consolation prize - a 9-0 decision would have been (even more) humiliating for the great baboon

Just proves you need to take vacation more often!!!

I think I have a better understanding on the day Christ returns. It’ll be the day you decide to take off.
Thank you.

Time for EE to be done with Trump.
Start a Republican insurgency immediately.
His ignorance, venality and spitefulness are disqualifying beyond the idiocy of his tariff policy and his abdication of Ukraine.
Kavanaugh is not very bright on the basic question.
Expected more from him.

“Creative applications of existing law.” Otherwise known as breaking the law.
Not always. Laws (as YOU well know) are subject to interpretation (otherwise we wouldn't need courts). Ergo, some leeway is permissible.
I think the way Trump interprets laws is simply that none apply to him.
You'd have to ask him...
Don’t have to. He expresses it almost daily.
Clearly the Supremes waited for you to take a Friday off. I hope Trump's staff had prepared him for this eventuality, and they changed his X login.

That would just add to his reputation as "a fighter"
Based on that press conference, how could anyone not realize that Trump is insane.
well anyone whose read his "truths" over the years or heard him speak for more than 5 minutes that doesn't already realize what he is probably never will.
I still think he’s the best president since Reagan.
He thinks he's the best President since Washington.
He may be…
LOL. Good one.
