DeSantis, Noem, Hawley, Cotton, Cruz, Haley, Pompeo...in my circle of suburban women who are typically conservative voters, I do not know one single one who would vote for any of these people.

I will elaborate a bit on my earlier comment about Nikki Haley. She has been away from politics a bit due to some family reasons. That strengthened my appreciation of her character. As I watched her performance in the UN, I began to think of her much as I do Margaret Thatcher. She never seemed to be upset or to worry over minor issues. But she could understand when minor moves portended larger change and knew where lines must be drawn. Then she became a rock who simply took a position. She would state the position simply, "The USA stands here. You may go wherever you choose. But the USA stands here. That will not change." Everyone in the room knew that when Ambassador Haley stated a position it was final. Often she was willing to negotiate. But she always had lines that could not be crossed. I see her as a person who knows and lives her beliefs. They are very hard to find. They are almost extinct in politics. Yes, she could be my President.

I appreciate your insight on the state of things. I'm glad there is push back against Herschel. He will get some great support in pockets of the state. But he's been out of state too long to be able to win statewide. I'm glad you have Haley on the '24 list. She has been my choice for a while because of her performance at the UN combined with governorship. I don't see DeSantis being able to win for two reasons. He is too close to Trump and carries an attitude that is too Trumpian for many independents. His brash attitude could cost the race. Although Noem, Cotton or Cruz could be great, we need them right where they are. If we can just get Joe to hold on through '24, Haley could be the first female President - a Republican! Wouldn't that just drive the 2H's - Hillary and Harris - nuts.

Georgia politics, based upon this writing and other previous posts, appears to be in a disfunctional state.

You gave the impression, but didn't say whether Dems think (privately) the press is all in for them.

I suppose I scoff at the power of Twitter as I don't use it. The whole thing strikes me as a circular firing squad.

I'd like to think Abrams blew her opportunity with her support of the all star game being moved, but then again, she does have one large qualifier.

I'm also curious if, privately, dems admit that, if you get rid of the eviction moratorium and get rid of all the unemployment, the shortage of workers will largely be fixed.

Finally, and a slight tangent, I'm surprised (or something) at how my left leaning FB friends now post ZERO politically. They are silent on political topics. It is now simply animals an family posts. They used to live a breathe to berate the right, now they are silent with the left running the show.

Thank you for the even handed synopsis. The long game, to include eternity, is truly what it is all about. One question from this though. Do you think Abrams will try to run for governor again in GA?

The great thing about being Catholic is that zealots of both parties hate me.

So no ‘for the people’ —only for re-election it seems. Self serving egotistical parasites. They need to be out after 2 terms by law. Not even sure that will matter at this point. This is truly a sad point for the US!

The Rolling Stones drummer will not be on the tour this fall. He put out a note to his fans that explained that he was recovering from an illness, but did not want to delay the tour. In the same note, the person replacing him described what an honor it was and that no-one would be happier to give up his spot than when the drummer is ready to come back.

Why mention this? Everything written was written with pure class and for the right reasons. When is the last time you saw a politician do something for the right reason. To show backbone, but also show grace, just a little bit of class.

Social Media has taken away the ability to openly attempt to see the other side of an argument. Grace has been completely removed from not only the political scene, but conversations in an office environment and most other social gatherings as well.

We live in a very dangerous time, where it seems that which-ever party wins, now feels that they have the license to do whatever they want, whenever they want, damn the constitution. And this includes Trump (transfer of monies from the military budget to pay for the wall).

Personally believe that the Democrats are going to get rolled back worse than when Gingrich and company took the house. Will it serve as a wake up call for the left? Oh yeah, but not in a "we need to find places to compromise". The woke will take things to a level that could permanently split this country.

All of it makes me sick...
