General Mark Milley, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was so worried President Trump might launch a surprise attack against China that he reached out to his Chinese communist counterpart and assured General Li that Milley would preemptively warn China. That, at least, is the salacious allegation in the new book, “Peril,” co-written by Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.
A general officer with an inflated notion of his own importance? Who knew? 🙃 Anyone who has served in the military for any extended period of time has seen at least one such person. The difference in most cases is that usually, the officer in question is identified in time to prevent him or her from ever being promoted to a position in which he or she could do any serious damage.
There is a way to determine beyond any doubt whether Woodward and Costa are relating a true narrative, or padding it with scandalous details for the benefit of potential book sales. That is, of course, for the authors to make their notes and sources public so they can be compared to the documents which certainly exist in DoD and White House files. While I am quite aware of the issues of press freedom such an action would present, the allegations are so bold and possibly dangerous to the public trust in the military that it may the only way we can prevent further distrust and fear of our government.
We are not officially at war with the Chinese. His actions, if true, don’t fit the exact meaning of treason. Real close. He should resign and go to work for the Media Industrial Complex where his Trump hate is appreciated.
“ This would amount to more of a coup than the incursion into the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.” ……Agree……and Ashli Babbit was shot and killed as aJan. 6th protestor. Milley has not even resigned.
Regardless of the nuance egotistical, woke people like Milley have no place in a military leadership role. He needs to go and take Austin, Blinken and Biden with him. They are all a clear and present danger to our republic.
While you were relating the story on the radio I remembered the Esper story, it was public. Milley looks to be suffering from TDS and is telling lies. Or he is guilty of treason.
There is a difference here. In the cases of Petrov and Arkhipov, the world really did need saving. There are absolutely no facts in evidence which would support the conclusion that a similar situation existed in this case, unless you include Chinese paranoia and the left’s Trump Derangement Syndrome as being valid ones. And while I am at it, in the cases of Petrov and Arkhipov, these men acted to prevent the world against the paranoia of their own government.
The “proof” General Milley used to support his actions, if Woodward and Costa’s account is even valid, only existed in his own mind. And if that’s the case, then there’s a long list of charges and specifications awaiting General Milley at his court-martial.
Maybe so, but this isn’t the way to prove it. Violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice, various Federal laws, and the Constitution by organizing a de facto mutiny (or if you prefer, insurrection) for nothing more than his own outsized sense of his own self-importance is exactly what it appears to be, namely conduct which cannot be tolerated for a second and which must be severely punished. As a 20 year military veteran, I know the potential disaster for the nation if our most senior uniformed leadership is allowed to wander that far outside the rule of law. We simply cannot allow our generals to confuse America for a banana republic-ever.
A mini Al Haig.
He won't be fired. His resignation won't be called for from anyone on the left. What he did was again Trump, so in their eyes, it is ok.

conduct unbecoming and officer?
…a man who cannot be trusted.

Milley should be fired with loss of pension. In reality he should be tried for treason!

Maybe he sees himself as a modern-day Grigory Vakulenchuk?
Stanislav Petrov. Vasily Arkhipov.
Sometimes a soldier has a moral responsibility to save the world.

This appears to show that the ChiComs feared Trump. That may have been a good thing for the US. We have lost that edge now with Biden-Harris.

And the consequences of doing so means to resign lest we go further down the rabbit hole of subjective truth and division.
