I know some of you disagree with me on this, but I think this continues to foreshadow a self-own by the GOP:
The “highest levels of government” at the time would have been the Trump Administration.
Let’s break this down. I know we are fully down the “F— them, they’d do it to us” rabbit hole, but what exactly is the end game?
If it is to investigate the FBI and the deep state, then cast the investigation as that, not as a witch hunt against Joe Biden and his family.
Second, tens of millions of Americans are dealing with the effects of addiction on their families and those of friends and other loved ones. What is the GOP response going to be when the media casts Biden as a sympathetic dad trying to help his son overcome his battles with addiction?
They are absolutely going to do that, and a good portion of the right will come off looking like the very a—holes the voters just rejected at the ballot box.
Again, I don’t have a problem if the GOP wants to see what all the fuss is about. But giving it this much attention and making it this much of a priority is more likely than not going to be self-defeating and blow up in their faces.
A better end goal would be not to drag the Bidens but shake up and reform the national security apparatus of the United States, which has been politicized. If the GOP were smart (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA), they’d wind this down and pass it over to a special committee designed to investigate the FBI, Justice Department, and the politicization therein. Then, the Biden laptop story becomes a useful illustration of how all the above collaborated with a social media company to censor a media outlet from telling a true story. And then the entangling details of the laptop provide extra news nuggets.
Making the laptop the primary focus, though, looks like revenge politics. The base will love it. The American public overall will not. And the Biden team can trot out a tearful dad to relate to America’s parents on a son struggling with addiction.
The bottom line is simple — if the GOP had a legit end game instead of a fishing expedition designed to make the President look bad while accomplishing nothing else, the Chairman of the Committee would not be begging people to accept the legitimacy of his investigation.
"What is the GOP response going to be when the media casts Biden as a sympathetic dad trying to help his son overcome his battles with addiction?"
I am frothing at the mouth and want to spit.
What in the hell do the so called moderate Republicans want the GOP to do? If the GOP tackles spending, the media is going to cast them as killers of poor people and seniors. If the GOP tackles job-killing regulations, the media is going to cast them as complicit as anti-labor and also complicit in causing all weather-related crises. If the GOP tackles crime, the media is going to cast them as racists against blacks. If the GOP tackles border security, the media is going to cast them as xenophobic. If the GOP tackles abortion, the media is going to cast them as misogynist. If the GOP tackles cleaning up the FBI and CIA, the media will cast them as ant-law enforcement and pro-white collar crime.
How about this?
Just do the right things and stop fretting about the media as the media is as corrupt as is the Democrat party. The right thing is to get to the bottom determining if Joe Biden is a compromised President and as a politician he has been peddling his political influence and power for his own personal gain, and/or the gain of his family members. If not then good. But if so, then Joe Biden in the White House has been a tremendous mistake for the country and that mistake needs to be fixed.
Just another reason that I have chosen to be an Independent. How about this - hand it off to a committee (As Erick suggested) and write some up and down legislation with no riders.
1). Open up our Natural Gas Reserves
2). Ease up the cost of exploration (Gas/Oil).
3). Write legislation the guarantees that leases cannot be revoked.
4). Write legislation that insures that we are investing in hydrogen technology and set it up so that existing energy companies can invest and explore
5). Write in tax incentives for companies to come back to the states. And write legislation that forbids drugs to be manufactured outside of the United States, while reducing tariffs for European countries (as long as the product is produced in their countries) to keep the market competitive
6). A bill that will allow people to 'work off' their college debt through different programs that help those through education, needing food, budgeting, child care, job training - you name it.
7) And last but not least - all cars that are manufactured, must have the fueling cap on the passenger side going forward (I mean, how hard is this?) And all those credit/debit card processors must be identical and work exactly the same. LOL! (Okay, this is for me)...
