A major news story broke on Friday that was nowhere to be found on the Sunday shows or the front page of Monday newspapers. A FEMA supervisor directed staff to withhold assistance from the hurricane-ravaged homes in Florida that had a Trump sign in the front yard. The story is not in dispute. FEMA confirmed the details uncovered by The Dailywire and has turned the matter over to a prosecutor.
As Donald Trump prepares to begin the process of purging the bureaucracy when he assumes office, he needs to purge the contractors as well. Let me explain because this is important to understand:
This looks like a growing story with the fema contractor making a statement now alluding to this being a known policy inside the org. If true it’s sad that a gov org just fulfilled a lot of fringe conspiracy. It’s suspected that the guberment has been serving the people differently but to confirm it especially in a time of need, it’s pretty disturbing even for dems.
As much as I agree that both government workers and contractors need to be reduced in number, I cringe at the word ‘purge’ and calls to ‘fire them all.’ Both expressions convey high emotion and low thinking. I agree that the reports about DoD leaders trying to subvert the President should be dealt with harshly and quickly when facts reveal their malfeasance. For reducing the size of government, there are ways to first decide what tasks should be done at all, and close those things down completely. For other things that are essential (some but not all aspects of FEMA, etc) there are ways of deciding who should be kept on merit, and help the others find gainful employment. Even Jack Welch, CEO of GE, famous for removing 10% of his workforce regularly, made sure that those released were treated well and assisted in finding other work. It does not need to take a long time to accomplish without resorting to chaos.
