It has become quite clear that the Republican Party is becoming a lot like the Democrat party in that they form a firing squad in a circle. If no reason we need a Republican senate in order to keep those committees chaired by Republicans! And we need a Republicans so that the majority leader will be a republican and have the ability to control the agenda.
There is ZERO chance Crockett wins statewide. Cornyn has been unremarkable and Paxton is clearly more aggressive. Both will serve Texas well. My phone blows up all the time with money requests but not for this primary. Call me Pollyanna, but I am not seeing any special money heading here to secure the republican win.
I love Georgia, but I am a Texan thru and thru. I am blessed to have properties in both states. God is GREAT!
Governor Abbot just announced his bid for a 4th term. He is running on massive property tax relief. The biggest part will be state funding for all schools switched from property taxes to State coffers. This promises to reduce my overall tax load by at least 50%. It will happen as soon as next year (2027) so pretty quick.
Yes, Governor Abbot has a published, believable, and funded plan that will pay the bills and increase student outcomes. This will be a first in the nation program and I expect other Red states to watch and follow suit.
Finally, I can see a direct connection between someone swimming across the Rio Grande and my wallet. Let’s look at all these schools packed with illegals…..
About half of your property tax bill goes directly to school funding. Georgia is projected to close at least 50 schools due to almost 20% self-deportations.
San Antonio is projecting 37 closings.
Yet areas like Brevard County Florida will close only 1 and are moving staff to other slots. This is due to their relentless “right sizing” of their budgets.
Omaha Nebraska has none because their RED state does not give away our money to illegals, so the population is small.
Even in small Corpus Christi Texas they are projecting 7 closures.
This was a surprise but not really when you think about it. When we hear that 20mil illegals are on the Federal Dole, it pops up in your local neighborhoods. Your kids are in packed classes. ESL holds back lessons. School budgets grow out of control. Kids overall have a poor outcome.
So, here is my revelation……
IF there were 20mil illegals that came in under Biden, and
IF each family unit had 4 school age kids, and
IF the school was limited to 1,000 students, and
IF these families all were to leave, then
I project that as many as 13,500 schools will shutter across all 50 states.
In 2027, under Governor Abbot, there will be ZERO illegals educated in any Texas school. Heads up, they will be moving to your state.
With 27 schools shuttering across DeKalb County Georgia, I am hoping for a substantial 2028 property tax reduction in Dunwoody.
Bleh... politics just leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. Our system is still better than most every other country, and yet, we spend more time making sausage than taking care of the people.
Changing subjects Erick. I was really hoping you would talk about the speech on Foreign Policy given by Rubio over the weekend at the Munich Security Conference. One of the best speeches I have heard in years, and gave me hope that Rubio could emerge as the next leader of the GOP vs. a Trump clone. I actually believe Rubio is playing Trump beautifully, but maybe I am being optimistic.
For anyone who hasn't listened to it, it is a must.
I did listen to it as well as a couple of follow-up interviews. If I had been there, I would've given him a standing ovation along with others in that room.
And here, we're right back to the same old problem, one that I have been driving home for literally decades now:
Republicans want to hold office, but Democrats want to hold power. The GOP is perfectly fine being the party not in power, just so long as they still have a seat at the table.
That way, they can't be expected to actually deliver the results they always promise. As long as they play ball and don’t rock the boat too much, they get invited to the best parties and let in on all the sweetheart deals to enrich themselves…. And for the most part, the media leaves them alone. The Democrats are in it to win it. The Republicans are in it just to get paid.
Texas GOP will nominate Paxton and he will win easily. Once he's the nominee you'll also throw your support behind him as the lesser of two evils.
It's beyond sad that the DoJ will not prosecute people that Trump views as allies. Think about that for a moment - There are a bunch of people right now that are basically above the law who can act with impunity to do whatever they want because they are viewed as MAGA / loyal to Trump. Trump's clearly above the law (the law would only apply to him via an impeachment where Republicans in congress vote to convict and those pantywaists won't even vote to overturn tariffs. So pretty much no amount of evidence of anything would ever lead them to voting to convict Trump)
I encourage everyone to read the details / evidence of what Ken Paxton did via his office for his buddy who employed/paid ken's side piece. The guy is a walking sack of human excrement. Rs in the Texas state legislature were too puss or corrupt themselves to convict but it's clear what the guy is. Once he's elected to the Senate he is in strong contentions for the 2nd most vile POS Republican elected to national office (no one can top the #1 - using your office as Pres to try to overturn an election you lost will forever take the cake) - Thanks MAGA
Sorry, but I disagree on a couple of points. It won't be the Texas GOP who nominates him, it will be the Texas Maga who will, and he will more than likely lose to whichever Dem (although Crocket would give him a chance) they put up. You have to remember, we are no longer voting against Biden/Harris which was the primary driver in 2024 for many of us. Trump has driven away R's like me, and the swing moderates and that will make a difference in the mid-terms.
One difference- Trump never played the part of a committed Christian. Paxton and his wife helped start Stonebriar Community Church which was pastored by Chuck Swindoll for many years. Paxton should know better. He has been exposed to the truth.
It was telling when Jack Graham, the pastor of Prestonwood Baptist, a church Paxton has attended, wrote a letter praising the character of Cornyn for the Link letter primary guide. When his pastor fails to support him, that should be a sign to all that Paxton isn't the Christian they are looking for.
I don't normally agree with the Dallas Morning News but they actually got it right in their primary recommendations (Cornyn over Paxton). But that might be a problem because they are generally liberal, so they cause people to do the opposite of whatever they recommend.
Paxton is the sign of rot in our "Christian" culture. I hope he doesn't win.
It should be obvious by now that MAGA voters are not concerned about morality, integrity, or even basic competence in the candidates they support. In fact, they seem determined to push such people out of our government.
Have to agree, SP. Yet that doesn't stop them from pointing out the lack of those exact same qualities in those on the left, does it?? Stand for nothing and you'll fall for anything.
Amen, brother. Yet what decent and honorable person wants to drag their family through the sewer of politics?? Nobody in their right mind would willingly do such a thing unless the payoff were extraordinary. Like a 3,200%+ lifetime return for Nancy Pelosi's husband. Or Ilhan Omar's sudden $30M net worth.
There is much to dislike over Paxton. He did his best to posture and advance Trump's stolen 2020 election narrative and as Erick points out is a terrible person. However, I have a few points of reluctant pushback because I dislike Paxton as much as Erick does. First, the Texas Senate had a trial they had regarding Paxton, but the prosecution had no solid evidence aside from accusations and hearsay. That doesn't mean Paxton isn't a POS, but it does mean that he might not be guilty of bribery. Second, I saw a UT poll of Texas showing him doing better than Cornyn against both Jasmine Crockett and James Telerico. One poll does not completely destroy the electability argument against Paxton, but I fear the electability argument might be similar to early arguments about Trump's viability in 2024. You can check for yourself (https://www.270towin.com/2026-senate-polls/texas)
Let me be clear, Cornyn is better for the National Republican Party and the Country as a whole for a number of reasons. As a Texan, I don't like the idea as much as Erick of having a slimy turd like Paxton represent the Lone Star State in the Senate. On the other side, we have Crockett who is a firebrand left-wing populist with an IQ of a walnut and Talarico who is a smooth speaker who enjoys going on the Joe Rogan podcast and butchering the Bible with liberal theology. Talarico stepped in it by reportedly calling the previous Democrat candidate who lost to Ted Cruz (Colin Allred) a "mediocre black man". That gaff is causing some turmoil among Texas Democrats and has Crockett up in most polls. Could it be Paxton versus Crockett for Texas's Senate seat? God bless Texas and while we're at it, God bless everyone else because we could all use some Jesus right now.
The utmost urgency in Texas is for the Republican Party to close their primaries so Democrats have no vote in deciding the outcomes of our primaries.
Are those the only choices?
JC is 74 and Paxton is clearly flawed….surely someone else in the Great State can step forward?
There is ZERO chance Crockett wins statewide. Cornyn has been unremarkable and Paxton is clearly more aggressive. Both will serve Texas well. My phone blows up all the time with money requests but not for this primary. Call me Pollyanna, but I am not seeing any special money heading here to secure the republican win.
Torn.

WOW… still WOW if only half this becomes true
Sounds like Georgia 2022 all over again.

Others had similar thoughts when folks like Hillary and Hunter Biden were allowed to walk away smirking.
When your side isn't in power, that Two-Tier Justice System really bites, eh?

As a Texan I respectfully disagree with your analysis.
"In addition to being a serial adulterer on his wife, Paxton has been impeached unsuccessfully by the Texas legislature "
Change 'Paxton' to 'Trump' and 'Tevas legislature' to 'US Congress'.... and the statement is still true. And TX still voted for Trump.
One difference- Trump never played the part of a committed Christian. Paxton and his wife helped start Stonebriar Community Church which was pastored by Chuck Swindoll for many years. Paxton should know better. He has been exposed to the truth.
Totally agree.

If one were to judge a nation's character and morality by its candidate pool, America would not pass muster. By their fruits shall you know them.
Selling souls to the Devil, whether they realize, agree, believe it or not.

I guess Paxton provides more grift for the other politicians, so they don't mind spending a little to get it back later...
Idiots, and I like Texas. Political malpractice. I guess Texas is thirty feet over the runway.
Well, the MAGAs in Texas are definitely at 30 feet, as they are throughout the country.
