First, a note to the House Republicans please before I get into what I really want to talk about.
I think Marjorie Taylor Greene is a terrible representative of her district, has all the nutty and fringe views on gets when they have too much time on their hands, and will hopefully be beaten or redistricted out to pasture next year.
But Marjorie Taylor Greene is being pilloried by Democrats largely because of positions and statements she made before her election to Congress. Democrats could have mounted a challenge. Instead, their candidate bailed and moved out of state.
Marjorie Taylor Greene should not be stripped of her committees and the GOP in the House should fight for her to stay on her committees. This is a dangerous precedent the House Democrats are setting and one easily applied to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez whose irresponsible rhetoric about concentration camps cost a man his life as he tried to firebomb an ICE facility.
Democrats want to make an example of Greene because of January 6th and they cannot do it to the overwhelming majority of the GOP House members who sided with Greene in objecting to the Electoral College. So they have to wrap that in Greene’s pre-election views and conspiracy theories.
The Democrats refrained from attempting to impeach Donald Trump for actions and potential crimes that purported to occur before he was President of the United States. They should refrain from punishing any member of Congress for their views, beliefs, statements, and legal actions taken prior to their election.
Singling out Marjorie Taylor Greene is inappropriate and if they do it, the GOP will need to pledge retribution when they take back the House in two years. From Maxine Waters encouraging harassment of elected officials to Ocasio-Cortez inspiring a madman to firebomb an ICE facility to Ilhan Omar and her relationship with her brother to the Democrats’ rhetoric inspiring James Hodgkinson to attempt a mass assassination attempt on Republicans, the GOP has ample grounds to reciprocate.
I hope a challenger will emerge to beat Marjorie Taylor Greene next year. But I have to stand with her and her right to on committees in the House of Representatives.
Now, let’s talk about the Democrats.
On Climate Change and Biden’s Policies
If you’re a Democrat, you may very well believe the climate is changing, we are responsible, and oil and natural gas must go away. But in the first ten days, in the middle of a global pandemic, as unemployment goes up, Joe Biden was highly cruel and irresponsible to cost the jobs of thousands of men and women related to the Keystone XL pipeline.
To further claim that they can get green jobs is fatuous nonsense. First, they cannot build the solar panels because they do not live in China. Additionally, many of the supposed green new jobs are not in the states where these workers live. Regardless of that, enacting a government policy or changing one and costing jobs in the current economic climate is bad public policy.
On top of it all, we are not going to get rid of oil and gas anytime soon. Between plastics, rubber, cost, etc. they will be here a very long time.
Democrats, like the left in Australia when they tried to force a nation to go green on command, will have to reckon with their green proposals. They will add to unemployment, drive up costs, and make lives for Americans more stifling. Democrats will rightly be accused of putting abstract ideas about climate change ahead of real jobs and people.
They can only get so far with much of the mainstream American media on their side and cheerleading for these policy initiatives. Americans care about their neighbors and Bill Weir on CNN singing Joe Biden’s praises will not offset the foreclosure sign in a neighbor’s yard.
It is cruel and made more cruel in that it was a unilateral fiat — the type of action that had Donald Trump done it would have been called tyrannical or authoritarian.
Democrat messaging since then on the environment has continued to be abstract and theoretical even as pink slips arrive and workers lose their jobs. Combine that with the Democrats’ strong stand with teachers unions against parents and students and we’re seeing a lot of openings for the GOP in 2022.
The problem, of course, is that the GOP right now is more divided than united and Democrats can and will exploit those divisions even as workers are let go and schools remain closed. What the Democrats are doing is as heavy handed as anything Donald Trump did with one major difference: the media approves.
Well, it’s not like it’s a big surprise that Keystone got canceled or that oil leases on federal lands won’t be allowed. This is what the country wanted. Higher gas prices and electricity costs mostly affecting the poorest Americans. It’s always fun when people get what they want. Whether you believe in climate change or not, (I do, cause I see the weather changing all the time, hot, cold, rain, shine) China is increasing their emissions faster than we can cut ours. Funny how environmentalists never talk about that....
Why do you and others only talk about the jobs lost from the cancelation of the Keystone Pipeline? I don’t read anywhere that the oil isn’t going to still go to the Gulf of Mexico, it’s just how it’s going to get there. So, there’ll be more trucking or rail jobs. Are we so sure that stopping construction of the Keystone is a net job loser?
