Thank you, Erick. General Powell was a great patriot who served his country with honor. I appreciate your support for leaving this part of his legacy ALONE.
multiple myeloma is a debilitating, serious cancer and he was too old for the most effective treatment. The death certificate should most definitely read, "Death due to complications of multiple myeloma"
Yeah, I'm trying to wrap my head around 'COVID complications.' My understanding is that upper respiratory infections like COVID, influenza, and pneumonia are often the last straw when the immune system is compromised either by other diseases or treatments like chemotherapy because they decrease lung function to the point that the brain is starved for oxygen. At the risk of igniting the from/with debate, it seems to me if that is what happened to Powell then it wouldn't be 'COVID complications' that caused his death. He died of COVID as a complication of his underlying cancer. The addition of 'complications' is gratuitous at best, and seems to be a bit misleading.
Ultimately, if you don't want a death to be fodder in the COVID vax wars, don't make a statement that sounds like a PSA for getting vaxxed.
A truly great American. He left nothing on the table in his service to his country. I am OVER this vaccine b.s. What difference does it make if he was vaccinated or not? That's the first question I hear if we are discussing someone who has contracted COVID -- "Were they vaccinated?", as if it determines if they get sympathy or not. Unfortunately, Powell had some significant health challenges, and even a regular 'flu would have posed a serious risk.
"It is shameful that people would rush to use Powell’s death from COVID complications to claim the vaccine doesn’t work while ignoring his related health problems that made both the vaccine less effective and the effects of COVID more dangerous."
Is it equally shameful to say that non-vaccinated people who die of COVID complications with related health problems die because they didn't get vaccinated? That's what non-vax stats are touted as saying. No asterisks there.
One does not have to claim that Colin Powell's death with/from Covid while being fully vaccinated proves that "the vaccine doesn't work" One can easily look at the King County (WA) Covid Dashboard and see that there is a real problem with the vaccines. Over the past 30 days the fully vaccinated accounted for 35% of the positive tests (AKA Cases), 23% of the hospitalizations, and 26% of the deaths. How high do these numbers have to climb before one can claim that the vaccines are highly ineffective (work poorly)?
The statistics you cite (see my further comment below) simply show how important that masking, social distancing and hand washing are to the reduction of the spread of the disease. Apropos of statistics, Mark Twain is reputed to have said that there are three kinds of people: "liars, damn liars and statisticians.
Truly, "dancing on graves" is repugnant to thinking, caring Americans.
That sort of acrimony seen in the likes of leftists (Rush Limbaugh's death), BLM and the Woke must stand in stark contrast to conservatives' thoughtful prayer and meditation for those family members, friends left behind to mourn his departure.
If they had even a semblance of shame, your words would move them. Sad that I have no confidence the people who want to profit on Colin Powell's death are willing to listen. Sadder still is that anyone would use this man's death for their agenda's gain. And that applies equally to the right. The former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State are but two of the great positions of honor this great man held with distinction. As to him being recruited to run for president, I heard it was his wife who requested he not seek political office. When, in the late 80's he was turning down these political office overtures, I recall thinking of her wish, "Great advice from the wife, sir!"
"..to use Powell’s death from COVID complications to claim the vaccine doesn’t work..." and this is why conservatives will never regain any office again.
So that's it! Some nut job made this foolish claim and according to you a Conservative will never will any elective office again. Who knew you had such amazing insight and predictive powers!
We lost a great general. This is sad on so many levels that anyone is using his death for either side of the rona vax debate. The guy had multiple myeloma and parkinsons and the vax so I doubt the rona was the main cause of death. But the media can't help but sensationalize it.
Multiple myeloma is an insidious cancer that is invariable fatal. The treatment is the full destruction of your bone marrow (where white blood cells are manufactured) and a rebuilding of the immunity system from scratch. In other words, the patients for this type of cancer are immune-compromised for MONTHS at at time.
Colin Powell was a remarkable man and patriot. He wasn’t afraid to swim upstream. His values and intellect guided his life decisions. RIP, General Powell.
Maybe the "rush" you mention wouldn't happen if the news out there didn't say "due to covid complications" in all the headlines?
AMEN🙏

There are now words for this. As attested by your brevity.
Facts. Godspeed General Powell.
