Secondly, Trump's proposal to end tax on Social Security income would die. Harris hasn't even tried to steal that one.
Just for comparison's sake, based on a non-senior married filing joint return on a $80,000 taxable income (after the Standard and other deductions), couples pay about $1,900 less in income tax each year with the Trump tax cuts than they will if Harris goes back to the old rates (and Dems haven't suggested they won't). The savings is a few hundred dollars higher for seniors, since only 85 percent of Social Security is taxed. (Only!)
Seniors, however, with the added Trump plan to cut SS taxation, would get to keep far more of their money. Based again on an $80,000 income, with $50,000 coming from Social Security (as with my wife and me), the couple would get to keep about $6772 more of their money each year. So, seniors rejecting Trump are rejecting a good bit of retirement money.
And this is really a low-ball estimate of the savings.
