Like a few people leaving comments for Eric, I'm leaving this subscription. There just too much evidence that Jan 6 was potentially caused, or at least exacerbated by the FBI and maybe other branches of government. Suggest listening to Tucker's interview with Rep. Clay Higgins of the House Oversight Committee.

This has nothing to do with liking Trump (I don't) but maybe a lot about intellectual dishonesty. Some people just can't divorce the guy's personality or moral shortcomings from policies that are good for this country. I don't see any middle ground on that latter.

I know announcing ones departure from a platform is totally unnecessary, but I want to say why I am going. Since everyone whose opinion I want to see requires a subscription, and I can't subscribe to all of them, I have to decide when someone has staked out a position and will not change or alter it, no matter what and if that person is one I want to continue to pay to hear. I am pretty far from a die hard Trump fan. I didn't want him the first time and I don't want him to be the nominee now. But I can still be objective enough to know that there was absolutely election interference from government entities at every level, the media, and operators in both parties to keep him from winning in 2020. Whether one wishes to call it a "steal" or just dirty dealings, it happened. I cannot say and no one can, how much effect it had on the outcome. As for the "insurrection", no it wasn't. And no, it also wasn't a totally insignificant incident. However, it was also obviously, to some extent, incited by planted agitators, perhaps a few legit Trump supporters with ill intent, but mostly a bunch of gullible people who had no idea what was happening and got caught up. No one deserves years in prison for anything that happened and if you watch more than just the democrat approved videos, you will see that. A stubborn refusal to acknowledge what we can see and hear from video is not a position I want to hear from someone I pay to hear. And that is all. Now I figure out how to unsubscribe and go pay to listen to someone else for a while. One needn't be so open minded ones brains fall out, but being so closed minded one cannot see what is right in front of them is equally bad.

Erick, I do not support Trump for President, but I do strongly believe our American elections have been compromised for decades by both parties. Until we admit this and have discussions committed to eliminating election illegalities we will never be a truly free America. It’s ok to be anti-Trump if you want, but it’s not ok to think our elections are completely legitimate. I hope Erick, you will see this and build care around it before it’s too late for our country. PS - Cyclorama is AMAZING...took the kids to see it a lot when they were young, have to go back.

Well no. Look up the Webster definition of “insurrection” and stop being a hyperbolic Democrat. IT WAS A PROTEST!

In my favorite alternate universe, Trump listens to Mike Pence, et. al.; graciously though reluctantly accepts the election results; and attends Biden’s inauguration. Today in 2024, he is unopposed for the nomination and leads Biden 60/40 in most polls.

I have been looking for the words to describe how I was horrified by what happened on Jan 6 but also do not think it was a literal threat to the continuation of our system of government. Grateful to have found those words here.

I don’t remember Trump saying anything about taking over the government violently. Can anyone give me the quote?

I heard Ray Ecks firing up the crowd. Who is he? Does he have a background?

When we saw state and federal government buildings being attacked in the summer of 2020 there was no cries of insurrection.

We are being played. The puppet masters want Trump out of the way so they can get a Haley-Biden match. They win either way.

Things should be interesting this Spring and Summer.

100% right. Thank you.

And yes, God will definitely define their term limits. :)

It never makes me think things will improve when I read a foaming at the mouth diatribe that will absolutely inflame people on both sides. Definitely makes Trump supporters dig in their heels. The left is already dug in. At least there are a few who can give a less vitriolic analysis of the event.

I will not accept the idea that Jan 6th was an insurrection until someone is charged and found guilty of it. Not one of the many Jan. 6th Trump supporters that have been arrested have been charged with insurrection. If anyone knows of one, let me know.

The Proud Boys were found guilty under..

18 U.S. Code § 2384 - Seditious conspiracy

As opposed to being charged with...

18 U.S. Code § 2383 - Rebellion or insurrection

There is a very subtle difference that lay people can discuss, debate, and argue about preferably while drinking.

As a lay person I see the difference is insurrection requires a foreign enemy. The fact is they are both chocolate chip cookies, just one has nuts.

That said, I agree with you, I refuse to call it insurrection, no one has been charged with insurrection. It like redefining bigoted and prejudice to be two other words for racist, they aren't.

Dang, Erick, I forgot to send out my January 6 cards.

Amen, brother, preach! Erick, how do you do this? Capture all my thoughts on this subject into words and phrases I could never articulate, while sliding in caustic humor? Not to mention how God, Himself, will show Biden and Trump term limits! My goodness, simply outstanding!

Excellent Erick! Agree with Herb and Richard and definitely spot on with those 80 yo’s approaching inevitable term limits! God Bless

Again, I’m no Trump supporter and live here in the DC area. But in my mind, January 6 was the Left’s Reichstag fire. For those who don’t know what the Reichstag fire was it was the burning of Germany’s parliament (the Reichstag - the people’s house) allegedly by the communists shortly after Hitler had been voted into office. Hitler used it to pass draconian, authoritarian laws to solidify his power. Biden and the Left are trying to do the same with January 6th, tarring anyone who supports Trump as opposed to the rule of law.

Fantastic column that covers both sides! Thank you, as well!

"..., God Almighty Himself will introduce both the eighty year olds to His version of term limits" - Love it!! :)
