The Jan 6 commission could have called Loudermilk anytime over there last year, they didn't. The fact that he gave a tour and several attendees of the tour trespassed at the Capitol has been known.

The Jan 6 Commission is mostly a partisan group seeking political retribution, not facts.

They have presented nothing more than a theatrical production ready made for propaganda in schools. The Democrats are desperate to show us why we need them.

Read quotes from "1984". For liberals it's a how to book, not a warning.

And I despise Trump for using the left's tactics.

Hey Erick, there's a process for this. Bring him in for questioning. And depo some of his guests to the capital on 1/5. Let's see what is 'damnable".

This committee can't allow truth to get in the way of their narrative

I think the truth has been plainly shown. Trump tried to overthrow the United States of America. Next to slavery, it is the greatest shame in the history of this great nation. Come over to the good side.

I don't buy into the alarmism required to believe that. I have always maintained that there was nothing that Trump or anyone could do to change the outcome. Nothing. It was completely inevitable that Biden was going to take office 2 weeks after Jan 6.

It is a fantasy to believe the outcome could have been differently, as much of a fantasy as choosing to believe Trump won and the election was stolen. It also shows a fundamental lack of underatanding of the strength and checks and balances in our system.

Again, there was nothing Trump could do to change the outcome. Nothing.

What if, indulge me now, what if Mike Pence had done as Trump and the coup planners had wanted?

Per Christian's reply this would go immediately to SCOTUS and 9-0 Biden would win.

There were no pending cases in front of SCOTUS on which to predict invalidating the Electoral College.

There was not an insurrection, it was a rebellion (yes, that is a significant difference).

There was never a Constitutional crisis, our "democracy", the Republic was never in danger of falling.

The hyperbole of the JAN 6 commission is over the top. The delivery of opinions and editorial comments coming from the members sounds like Johnny Depp's testimony, a technique used for maximum emotional impact.

Thank you for some common sense. The hysteria surrounding this event just boggles my mind because it demonstrates what a profound level of ignorance most people have. I don't know if it's because people watch too many stupid movies or read too many stupid books, but this was not Hollywood.

Biden would have immediately filed a legal challenge and it would have ended up at the Supreme Court.

The Court would have had to decide on the Constitutional limits on the power of the VP with respect to certifying the electoral votes

Filed a legal challenge with the SCOTUS Trump had already stacked in his favor. And who stays in charge while SCOTUS deliberates?

I think Trump and his planners were counting on confusion and panic. That would have been their justification for staying in their place of power.

They had a plan. They are not stupid. Immoral, criminal, and corrupt, but not stupid.

Just to be clear, I am not saying you are stupid. I am just venting my frustration that so many millions of Americans have allowed themselves to be sold this Fantastical lie that somehow there was some possibility that Trump could have stayed in office. And when challenged, none of the individuals I have engaged with in person or online have been able to come up with any rational or plausible scenario or sequence of events that resulted in Trump staying in office.

So it's almost like rationally they understand it was never going to happen but emotionally they need to believe it. Why is that?

And none of that changes the fact that Trump is morally and ethically, possibly legally, culpable for the lies he spread surrounding the election.

Who stays in charge? How long do you think it would take SCOTUS to deliberate?

I think it is literally stupid to believe this had any chance of success. I generally shy away from using from using strong language to describe other people, but I firmly believe you genuinely have to be stupid to believe anything that happened on January 6th would have changed the outcome.

Even if Trump had convinced Pence not to certify the electoral votes, the legal process would have played out within days. The court would have ruled unanimously that Pence did not have the authority.

Congress would have been reconvened and the electoral votes counted and certified Within a week.

And the inauguration would have taken place as planned.

There would have been no confusion for Trump to take advantage of.
