It took me the first two years of Donald Trump's presidency to realize that he was using the principles of the Constitution to lead precisely the type of anti-elite revolt that the Founders themselves led in 1776. And what's the big deal about Signora Meloni being a fan of "The Lord of The Rings"? This "openly and explicitly Christian" 72-year-old is too. It helps to realize that Tolkien actually wrote a Christian allegory disguised as a "sword and sorcery" fantasy. Tolkien's best friend, after all, was C.S. Lewis for obvious reasons.

The "elites" Trump and Meloni oppose aren't just an socio-economic elite; they are also the forces of Marxism in Western society. That this sort of revolt is being led by "populists" is no surprise, as the Western political establishment of moderate leftists of "right" and "left" have been subverted by radical Marxists. Again, read Alinsky. The logical opposing force isn't fascism; it IS the "populist", republican principles of the 18th Century Enlightenment; and if you're looking for people who are acting more like Mussolini, look no further than Joe Biden's Democrat Party. After all, at the extremes, fascism and Marxism have much more in common than you'd like to think.

Elites exercise humility? The odds of that are about equal to John Kerry flying coach.

Taken in reverse...

The backlash isn’t right-wing. It’s common sense against people who think boys can become girls spontaneously and government can and should force its citizenry into behavior patterns the people oppose.

The elite absolutely want their power back. But exercising humility and trusting the people would be to admit they are wrong. The scorpion doesn't repent for stinging the frog, it's what the scorpion does.

That's not to say all tyrants are left. They too rise out of the chaos.

She has a tough row to hoe. Italy’s government has been dysfunctional for generations. The same experts were lambasting England for getting out of the EU.

The elite were also responsible for our disastrous evacuation from Afghanistan, leaving Billions in arms and equipment, letting prisoners go free before we left, leaving Americans behind by not conducting evacuations from the city (like our Allied partners), killing an Afghan civilian and six children through crappy intelligence and exposing an inept military leadership at the top.

The new Prime Minister sums up her point of view nicely in 2 minutes here, with English subtitles.

She's impressive.

Following that logic, the current Democrat Party was, even as late as the 1960's, vehemently racist; in fact until the Emancipation Proclamation they were America's party of note for slave ownership. Ergo, current Democrat Party members are connected to slave ownership and rabid racism?

You forgot to add ESG and the reason why energy prices are so high. The elite would be fine if you lived in the dark with no AC.

"The elite would be fine if you lived in the dark with no AC." True, but not them, of course; they're "better" after all.

It’s funny that the same reporters who continue to state that Meloni’s party has ties to fascism never mention the Democrats far more recent ties to segregationists and the KKK. William Fulbright and Robert Byrd are just two names that come to mind. I guess the accusation is only valid for candidates right of center.

Define "elite" as it is assumed but not precise.

No need to qualify the history of Italy, Erick. Imagine if we did the same with Democrats? The party of slavery and Jim Crow? Your last paragraph should have been your lead.

We used to call it the BLUF, bottom line up front.

Dang it, now I really want to get back in there and move that last paragraph up top! LOL. You're right.
