"She's not just a model public servant." Oh, if only our politicians could replicate 1/10 her example as a public servant, this county would be in far better shape.
I try my best to not get all carried away with the comings and goings of that spectacular anachronism known as the British Royal Family. That having been said, I do confess to having been an unabashed admirer of Queen Elizabeth II. She did comport herself on the throne with precisely the right amount of decorum without once appearing to be overly haughty and aloof, which is a truly rare accomplishment, and one I suspect King Charles will not be able to emulate.
The world truly is lessened by her passing. May she rest in honored peace.
Exactly right. Add to that, she was a very young woman in a very male-dominated time in a very patriarchal system. Yet, she stepped forward, rose up and stood firm and unwavering in her vow to lead Britannia through anything and everything come what may. She neutralized and converted doubters and became quite a force with which to reckon. She remained that way for longer than any of her heralded predecessors. What she did not do was to attempt be a feminist’s role model. Ironically, she’s done that exceedingly well also.
I always envied her…not for being the Queen of England, thankless task, IMHO, but as the extraordinary horsewoman she was all her life. She saved the Cleveland Bay breed from extinction, rode amazing horses with competence and confidence, promoted the native breeds of the British Isles, got her first pony at four, and was still riding until a few months before her death.
I was trying to think which of the American presidents she served with had similar devotion to duty. I can immediately name Eisenhower and GHW Bush. I want to name Reagan too.
