The Debate And The Policy

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will square off tonight at 9 PM on ABC in their first face-to-face encounter ever. Nearly 7 in 10 Americans say they plan to watch all or most of tonight’s debate with 3 in 10 saying it will help them decide who they vote for.

The Harris team has gone into overdrive to set expectations that this is Harris’s first formal debate and that she is still evolving as a candidate.

The debate comes one day after Kamala Harris’s campaign (finally) added policy positions on a litany of topics to her campaign website. However, according to The New Republic, there’s one big problem for the candidate trying to position herself as the “change agent.”

…they finally added an “Issues” section to her website. It includes a slew of policies that the campaign has previously outlined, as well as sections on reproductive and civil rights. Unfortunately for Harris, its release was undermined by a simple but telling error: The page’s source code revealed that parts of the platform were copied directly from Biden’s campaign page.”

As Kamala Harris attempts to rebrand herself as a border hawk, CNN’s Erin Burnett revisited her disastrous 2019 presidential bid to explore her policy evolution.

Context: In 2019, Harris attempted to run to the left of Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren to shore up the progressive vote in the Democratic Primary. In doing so, here are the policy positions she publically supported.

• Supported tax-payer-funded gender transition surgeries for detained migrants.

• Pledged to decrease funding for ICE.

• Pledged to end immigrant detention.

• Pledged to close all family and private immigration facilities.

• Pledged to end ICE detainers.

Russia and Iran

Iran has transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia that are expected to be used on the battlefield against Ukraine in the coming weeks.

Context: The news comes as Ukrainian President Zelensky said on Friday that intelligence suggests Russia will execute highly orchestrated attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure this winter. Iran is joining China and North Korea in supplying various weapons systems to the beleaguered Russian military.

The news comes as Ukraine attacked the Moscow region with its most significant drone attacks to date last night. While 38 of the 46 Ukrainian drones were destroyed before impact, the situation shut down airports and forced hundreds of thousands of people to shelter.
