And 25% of the world's wheat is grown in two countries: Russia and Ukraine. The Russians can weaponize food as easily as they can weaponize oil and gas., The path to global disaster has many entrances.

Here are several truths that the Left always misses:

1. The source of crude oil does not affect the consumption of oil outside of the cost to move it.

2. It is more environmentally damaging to ship crude to the US than pump it here.

3. Pulling 60,000,000 barrels of oil from our reserves is about three days consumption.

4. On average each US resident uses 20 barrels of crude per year.

5. Adding 2,000,000 illegal residents increases annual consumption by 40,000,000 barrels.

6. Each watt of renewables must have an equal amount of "bad" backup to avoid brownouts.

7. The most "green" of all energy sources is nuclear.

8. Electric vehicles can only increase the total amount of air pollution unless 100% nuclear.

9. Overall hydrogen fuel increases pollution and is very dangerous to transport and store.

10. You can't violate the Laws of Thermodynamics nor can you repeal them.

So Russian oli is like 3% of our consumption. And Biden can't figure out where else he could get that oil, except maybe from Iran?

It's like we are living in a Babylon Bee article.

It's not that we were a net exporter of oil under Trump so much as it was that we were the swing producer, able to affect crude prices by making small adjustments in the amounts we produced. That's real power in the marketplace and given that oil and gas are priced in dollars, it also bolstered King Dollar's position as the global reserve currency. The Bidenauts are in the process of destroying that lofty and powerful position which the dollar has held since the end of WWII, and they have no clue as to what the effects of losing that position will be.

Yes, we know the effect. China and Russia mean to isolate the US economically and culturally.

The Euroweenies will simply join them. Oil will be denominated on Yuan, and Obama's vision realized, the US will be no better than any other country.

Fine, YOU know. Now how many other Americans do you think know that? I suspect that the answer is, “too damned few”. Now, just imagine what will happen when everyone else realizes what this means. I shudder to think of that future .

But, but...unless we go green the world will end in 10 years!

Expand full comment

Never mind 10 years; will we make it to the end of the year? Yes, it really is that dangerous. We have a Russian leader who has hidden himself away for fear of COVID and who, according to people who know him well, has become more paranoid and aggressive. On the other side (here), Grandpa Dementia. There’s not a level head in the positions of leadership except for Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who has no real say in the matter outside the borders of Ukraine.

We are never, ever going to know the full story behind what Biden is doing or why...and you can call me a "conspiracy theorist" if you want, but...Hunter Biden and the Ukraine, Joe Biden and the Ukraine, Russia and the Ukraine, the Clintons and the "Russian collusion", the impeachment of Trump over the phone call with Zelenskyy...something is going on behind the scenes that we, the American people, are never going to hear about. Probably only a very few people "know" what is going on...and they aren't ever going to let that information leak out. But there has to be something...how does a little nation like the Ukraine get in the center of all these "scandals"?

I believe in Occam's Razor, the notion that when presented with two or more explanations for anything, the simplest one is usually the correct one. And where the Bidens are concerned, as is the case with the Clintons before them, the simplest explanation is simple personal corruption. You see, we too have our oligarchs - and we forget that such people always owe their success and power to the person(s) who set them up with it. And the more power such people have, or are perceived as having, the more beholden they are to their benefactors; a Faustian bargain remains a deal with the Devil, no matter how much we may pretend it isn't.

The simplest explanation: The Bidens are owned by Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and the radical Marxist environmentalists. Period. Full stop.

Erick, the electric cars need their energy from a source.

Expand full comment

Exactly! And not only that the overall amount of energy required to move an electrical car one mile is appreciably more than with gasoline all else being equal. Furthermore, it always will be because of the Laws of Thermodynamics. There is not enough electrical generating capacity to switch all cars to electrical. All electrical does is move the source of pollution. Overall it does not decrease pollution. The only way to go "all electrical" is to also go "all nuclear" and that ain't going to happen.

totally agree. If we only had a leader who thought more about humanity than his own popularity, oil import from Russia would have stopped already.

Last night, I found myself in the unfortunate situation of needed to fill up in the West End section of downtown Atlanta. My first concern was safety...but I always have my 9mm SIG compact pistol in my belt (very much in view) when I am at any gas station. My major concern was that gas was $4.59 per gallon. Now, I know quite well that gas is always much more expensive in the inner city. However, I was willing to pay that price vs the possibility on running out of fuel on Lowery Blvd. Before Covid and widespread teleworking I was commuting 150 miles RT to work daily. I needed 1 and a half tanks of gas a week (20 gallon tank). I paid $40-$45 each fill-up which equaled $240 per month. With the types of prices we are seeing today...it is costing me on average $80 a tank (If I had to fill up in West End each time it would be over $90 per tank. Using the $80 amount If I had to commute as much as I did pre-Covid it would be costing me almost $500 per month!!! Luckily, I am able to telework now. Many people (especially blue collar) cannot. The average American family cannot afford these prices and also put food on the table and roofs over heads. The Brandon green energy policy is hurting our country. They do not care. I am livid!!!

"Now, I know quite well that gas is always much more expensive in the inner city."

Those least able to pay, pay the most. Is also true of groceries - inner city markets often have less selection, lower quality and higher prices all at the same time :-(

Sad the Dem politicians miss that part of taking care of their constituency. Even more sad and mystifying, the constituents continue to vote them back in.

Expand full comment

"Those least able to pay, pay the most." Have you ever asked yourself why that's true? It's largely because of the brutal insurance rates businesses have to pay in those areas, along with the difficulties in getting and keeping a work force. And we should continue to defund the police? When inner city residents are polled, personal safety and safe places to shop at reasonable prices always are high on the list of things they want most - and exactly the things leftist elites are least inclined to provide them.

Why is so much western land still controlled by the government? Give it to the states who really own it and let them support local programs by leasing out the mining and oil rights.

We're also dealing with inter-state commerce in these topics, so yeah, the federal gov't has their finger on the scale. Some fingers are larger than others...

Agreed. I lived in Utah before I came here to Indiana. 63 PERCENT of the land in Utah is Federally owned. In neighboring Nevada, NINETY percent is owned by the Feds. It's like that throughout the West.

As with a lot of things in life, follow the money. The Dems support of abortion has very little to do with women's rights or reproductive health care. In fact, it's mostly about selling baby parts. Does BLM really stand for justice for Blacks? Let's ask their founders who went on a luxury home buying binge with all the money raised. Hillary Clinton accusing Trump of Russian collusion, all while concocting the entire Russian collusion scandal and raking in millions from Russia through the Clinton Foundation. And Iran and the billions of dollars dumped on the tarmac in Tehran during the Obama presidency. Where did a former community organizer-turned Harvard professor-turned president get all the money to afford not one, not two, but three luxury homes, two of which are located in coastal areas. Apparently, Obama isn't so concerned with the coming disastrous effects of global warming after all.

Turning to the current situation with Russia and Iran, I find it very hard to believe that the Biden administration's stance on continuing to buy oil from Russia is one driven by idealogical adherence to the climate alarmists, especially when we all know that at the highest levels of power the cries of global warming are nothing but a ruse being used for profit and control. So why would Biden resurrect Obama's disastrous Iran nuclear deal. It didn't work the first time and will put the Iranians on a path to nuclear ICBMs pointed at the Israelis who they wish to destroy. In fact, it's even more confounding in the face of the success of the Abraham Accords, which by God are a modern miracle. Thankfully, we have the results coming out of the Durham investigation, as well as the contents of Hunter Biden's laptop, to show us just how corrupt, just how power hungry, and just how treasonous the Dems are. How long do we sit by and watch this blatant corruption and idiocy continue? How many Ukrainians have to die to feed the Dems' greed and corruption?

The answer to most of the "why" questions in politics are easily tied to money and power, period. The Founders never intended for a "professional political class" to exist. The original Founders would serve as truly public servants for their terms, then go back to their businesses, farms, etc. They understood that power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Unclear why term limits themselves were never codified in the original Articles of Confederation or the Bill of Rights. Could be that the Founders had no concern about it since everyone already understood that public service in politics wasn't profitable at the time, dunno.

"In fact, it's mostly about selling baby parts."

Disagree. Dems need to preserve voter-base, and that costs money - it's about retaining power, IMO. They don't really care where PP gets it from, just that their campaign gets the $$$ in one form or another.

We've lost our collective minds as a culture with abortion. The Dems appeal to the "lost minds" by supporting a "freedom" that has a death-grip on, well, death as an option. Result? The indoctrinated voter base due to their love-affair with death.

Keep an eye out for euthanasia - won't be long before we eliminate those of us no longer "useful" to satisfy the young tax payers. "Free" from consequence on both ends of life - it follows in other countries, we're not far behind.

"The case of assisted dying has been debated over decades now, and various essay examples are available online regarding euthanasia to create awareness among people. These policies need to be influenced by providing official statements. Look out for an argumentative essay about euthanasia where all sorts of issues are highlighted regarding the said topic and draw public attention to call for a change. Euthanasia is the term which has been in debate for over the years now, despite living in a progressive world everyone has their own reasons to justify this action and some still stand against it in a rigid manner. There is great confusion regarding it, but there are numerous states which stood by the right of individuals and made laws that terminally ill people can opt for. It is now legal to let someone die, and there are different forms of euthanasia accepted. Active euthanasia is legal in Oregon, Washington, Vermont, California, one county in New Mexico, and Montana, whereas passive euthanasia is practiced all over the US. In 2016, the mentioned states were allowed to legalize active euthanasia, in this case, death is brought about by an act." (Source: Halt.org)
