What is better?

A rhino like McCain? So we get the 14 senators who voted with the dems?

The problem is the media not the candidates. They are the ones portraying dems in good light and republicans in bad.

Better candidates won’t matter if the voting system isn’t improved either. And yes Desantis will lose if that doesn’t happen.

What excuse will we make if non trump endorsed candidates run and still lose?

Or they run and are defeated by fractions of a percentage with fake mail in ballots?

So much talk of Republican candidates fail to mention the flawed dem candidates.

Uh Uh. Why should we think Republicans will have any major success in the upcoming election? The deeply entrenched Republican Party and its politicians have made the same false promises to conservatives for 50 years. They've used the same playbook for 50 years. (Oh, were going to cut spending. Oh were going to curtail over-regulation. Oh, were going to stop McCarthy because we need new conservative blood. Oh, were going to build a wall. Oh were never going to let Biden and the Democrats raise the debt ceiling, oh, and blah, and blah, and blah and blah). Promises that demonstrate that they know exactly what their constituencies want, yet they chronically lie and fail the conservative people. And too many people now recognize it, and their votes are gone forever. I don't care if the Party runs Washington, Jefferson and Payne. There are too many people who just aren't buying the lies that the Republican Party are selling any more.

Only part of the blame goes to the party, the rest goes to the voters. In fact most of the blame goes to Republican voters.

Yes and no. An increasingly significant number of conservative voters have given up on the deeply entrenched, weak-spine, soft-left liberal RINOs they have reelected over the years, and they will not continue to waste their time voting for same, or maybe voting at all. Just remember our own worthless Republican senators of the recent past: Good 'ol "rock the boat" Johnny Isakson and Saxby Chambliss. Good riddance.

That has nothing to do with what I am talking about...which is Republican voters falling for strongman con artists and buying into lies about stolen elections.

Too many Republican voters want pay back, or the "own" Democrats in some way. They have no interest in a party that governs effectively in a country where 60% of the voters are not Republicans

Ok, so what you mean is that the Republican People are failing because they voted for Trump. To some extent that is certainly true. But if you were a Republican, you would understand that those Trump voters and conservatives despise the deeply entrenched political class, and an increasingly statistically significant number of those people are not going to vote for the entrenched politicians, or they may not vote at all. The lies of the Republican Establishment have come home to roost. The Republican Party has jumped the shark with its failures, and millions of us are never coming back. That is the reason for their minimal gains in the midterms. We’re gone.

Since it worked so well this time, will the dems buy toxic Republican candidates for the ticket through out the country again bumping off the quality we so desperately need?

Expand full comment

They won't have to, Republican voters will nominate them. All they need is a little bit of nudging and they will nominate the toxic candidates all by themselves

I am not so sure that candidate quality is the real story now. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, John Fetterman For example. There are others. It seems to me that the difference is that Democrats vote for party win, and the Republicans are split between the establishment moral elites that seems to think we should and can find little Ronny Reagan clones everywhere and THAT would fix GOP losing ways... and those that see the changes in the political process and climate and know that the GOP can no longer win that way.

The establishment GOP also has the problem with their inability to attract enough of the working class. That is the Trump side of the GOP... and then candidates deemed by the establishment GOP as undesirable. But without that the GOP is nothing... no constituent groups except themself.

The narrative from the GOP establishment is that they can only win if they carve off center left moderates by putting forth moderate candidates. They truth is that there are no real center-left voters any more... Democrats, even those that claim as Independent, vote straight party line. There are only GOP voters that cannot control their emotions and vote for Democrats out of anger that the Republicans running are not of their high and mighty morality tribe. With that the GOP will never really win again.

As long as people on our side keep damning candidates because they aren't the old establishment types, we will keep losing. Along with ignoring how certain states can't ever manage to get ballots counted, but when they finally do days or weeks later, the dems always come out on top.

Ok candidates matter. You won’t have a Dr Oz or Walker.

Voting laws also play a factor. Florida was a red wave because mail in ballots were all but banned. Most laws haven’t changed in any state including Georgia. Till they do. It will be more the same with dems making surprising gains and mitigating losses. All in blue states of course.
